Ayala steps down

He was very good for us. It's a shame it ended on a sour note because otherwise I'd probably be as fond of him as I am of Friend and Leadbitter.

Not sure why some of our fans talk about him in a derogatory fashion. Brilliant alongside Gibson in the Karanka years.

Think it was more about how he left tbh.

Aside from that, an absolutely excellent defender for us. Although his defending against cameron jermome for norwich's first goal in the playoff final still leaves a sour taste :ROFLMAO:

He played .....in February......???? 😳😳
"Rotherham United have terminated the contract of Spanish defender Daniel Ayala by mutual consent.

The 33-year-old made seven appearances for the Millers after joining on a deal until the end of the season in October.
However, he was sent off in successive games in December and has not featured since because of a long-term injury and was not named in their 25-man squad after the January transfer window.

Rotherham are 19 points adrift of safety at the foot of the Championship."

Phew.....thanks for clarifying.

Was worried he'd grown a "strong ankle" over Xmas.😬😬

The club team was a shadow of its former self when he gave up the ghost.

Certainly one of our best defenders of the Riverside era. Was always a threat off corners and a rock when defending corners.

Won me a few FGS bets too

Ayala was a great player for the Boro. A good player in defence and invaluable when Boro got a corner.
I find it rather ironic that he leaves in early March when all Boro fans knew that he would come back ready and fresh after his February “holidays”.
Best of luck for the future Mr Ayala. Boro fans have fond memories of when you played.

Great player for many years for us. How we could do with someone like the Ayala of a few years ago in both boxes now. Shame how it ended though and really sad he is now filed alongside dross like Gestede and Fletcher in many peoples' eyes as a result of this.

You must have a long list of best defenders at Riverside. I agree he was good but we had quite a few better defenders at Riverside

Southgate, Ehiogu, Festa, Huth, Woodgate are probably the only ones who i'd rate as far better than him. Gibson was on Par. Only RVB out of our current lot could be better.

I don't think we have had anyone better than him post relegation under Southgate. However with defenders I would also include Pearson, Cooper, Zeige (probably missed a few).
