Battery plant on steel works site at Redcar?

One possible UK site for a new JLR Envision plant is the former steelworks at Redcar in Teesside, which has large amounts of space and access to renewable energy, one person said. The businesses are in talks with government ministers about securing funding to help secure a UK plant.

If selected, the Redcar site would be the third battery plant in the North East, after Envision’s Sunderland facility and Britishvolt’s site at Blyth.

People wanting to build battery plants is literally the new gold rush. Most of it is snake oil and magic beans.

None of it is commercially viable in its own right without huge tax breaks and "incentives" from the government.

How are we going to get the workers there? I hear you ask...

Sadly, like much of Teesworks, I'll believe it when I see it.

Tees Valley Monitor, on Facebook, is a very interesting about the whole project.

Anything wrong with tax breaks and incentives for a deprived region?

Did I really read the other day an article with Houchen celebrating opening a car park or was it just a nightmare?
I've said before, we had a new front door fitted last year, got up the next morning and opened it for the first time and there was Ben. T. Houchen stood there wearing a hi viz jacket with his personal photographer snapping away. His missus was going to turn up as well, but apparently she was too busy, she had a job interview with Lord Wharton to attend, it was really cruical it was down to a shortlist of one.

Who did ? It was a decision made by Johnson Mathey, workers will be redeployed...
Thanks 👍

Will they?

I know a couple who work there and they've been told not to go to work for 3 month as JM don't want to open the place. First sale fell through as preferred buyer was Russian.

First wave of redundancies happened couple weeks ago.

The tax breaks and incentives are for the global billion ££££ businesses not locals.

Trickle down economics my ar5e.
Even neo-liberals have disclaimed the trickle down theory. My question was a genuine and open one. Perhaps an objective assessment of the number and quality of employment roles in the region pre and post this government would be interesting. Not that it matters here, but I have never, nor will I ever, vote Tory.
