Been a great season

Better than 2014/15 play-off season for me, and I loved that.

Best football we've seen in a generation.

5-0, 5-1, several 4-0s, and of course the much loved 3-1s.

Three players on 10+ goals for the first time in how many years?

Emergence of Hackney out of nowhere.

And obviously the Akpom story, goes without saying really.

All with a rookie manager as well, after the disaster of a start under he who shall not be named.

The best in reason memory for sure. In some ways I would like another go in the championship wioth a full season of Carrick but prem must be the goal I guess

Above everything else the football has been entertaining, I can think of only perhaps the game against Huddersfield where I have been anything other than royally entertained.

If we go no further than losing to Coventry it will still have been the best season since...

...well a very long time ago! Perhaps the season where we bounced back to the PL with Merson et al?

Agree. It has been brilliant.

It’s not finished yet though, it’s our year. I can feel it.

Been an amazing turn around. We've never seen so many goals scored for god knows how long. Refreshing to see the football we've played under Carrick.

Hopefully the season finishes on an all time high and we finally turn around the Wembley curse!

It's been absolutely brilliant, but if we don't go up now it means we've either lost a 2 legged tie against Coventry or a play off final against either Luton or Sunderland so we'll all be absolutely devastated and it'll leave everyone feeling quite disappointed & next season there is going to be around 16/17 teams in the division who all have very serious aspirations of at least finishing in the top 6 it's going to be as difficult as it's ever been.

It was ***** up until my birthday.

That was the day that Carrick was appointed, a third of the way in to the season.
Since then, it's been largely superb and it's comfortably the most enjoyable 2/3rds of a season we've had in a long time.

Whatever happens, Carrick's done a great job.

I agree with the sentiment, we'll only get better next season if we miss out in the playoffs. Loan signings under Carrick have been excellent and I'm sure he'll be able to repeat that with some astute signings over the summer if we are in this league next season. My heart wants promotion, but my head tells me we aren't ready and I worry we would implode again like last time with a season fighting relegation in the EPL.

We will never be ready with this attitude. The chance is there for us now to get to the premier league. Let’s put everything into that.

None of this I think we need another championship season BS

Our club would be much healthier going up this season, amassing 0pts, than staying down in this division for another season.

No one will ever know if they're ready or not.

Do you think Sunderland (who 12 months ago were fighting for a play off spot in League 1) will think the same, 'Oh we're not ready, we're full of kids and loans' - of course not.

When the opportunity of going up arises, you grab it with both hands, irrespective of whether you think you're ready or not.

Exactly.

We go up. We pretty much definitely hold onto Chuba and extend his contract. We possibly sign Archer on a permanent. Steffen and Giles too.

We don't go up, we feasibly lose 5 or 6 key players. We'd be even further away from "being ready" than we are now.

If we go up we take the money, trust the new recruitment principles - invest in younger players with resale value.

If we then go down you either cash in and are able to reinvest or you hold onto them for a year. Either way we'd hopefully be in a better position to then come straight back up.

I actually subscribe to that, just don't see it as a massive disappointment if we don't go up and also don't think most of our fans are generally conditioned to the yo yo model. Can see the meltdowns on here when we lose two nil at home to Brentford in January amid the calls for Big Sam

Well, if we want to get in the Champions League…..

There's absolutely no guarantee we'll get better if we don't get promoted.

We'd possibly not be able to get Steffen back, a key part of our style of play.
We'd probably not be able to get Archer back.
Akpom might well push to be sold.
We might not be able to afford to sign Giles permanently.

That's 4 starting players who have been key to our success that could well be elsewhere next season.

Archer and Ramsey were both signed specifically on the back of Aaron Danks coming in from Aston Villa and recommending two players he'd been working closely with in the youth teams, rather than Carrick pulling them out of a hat.

We'd be losing 6 loan players, and half the remaining squad would be out of contract in 12 months.
There'll be a big churn in the summer, whichever division we're in.
I'd sooner do it when we have the £120-£200m of PL money.

I trust Carrick to replace any players we lose with better or as good. Chuba will stay whatever I think, he's seen enough to know where he's happy. Steffen and Giles may well stay too, but aren't irreplaceable. Archer would be a fantastic signing, but there's more than us that would be interested if Villa were to sell. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be fantastic to go up, but think we've had a tremendous season whatever happens.
