Bellingham sending off

Was it right or wrong?

If you havent seen it Madrid had a cross that went into the box, Madrid player headed it in, as it was going in the goal the ref blew for full time before it could count, a scuffle broke out, Bellingham got sent off.

That’s not entirely accurate. The referee quite clearly blew the whistle before the ball was crossed, not after Bellingham headed it.

The way Bellingham reacted was probably worthy of a red card.

You clearly haven’t seen it. It was well after the cross. Why on earth didn’t he blow after they cleared the corner. Would have saved all that!

They're appealing anyway, and I'm sure La Liga will ensure that Real Madrid get their way.

Disagree. He blew before the cross came in. Commentators agreed as soon as the game ended.

Can understand the frustration but can’t get into the ref’s face like that.

Nah I’m not excusing Bellingham. But it was blown after, that’s not even debatable to be fair. He put the whistle to his mouth a couple of seconds before, but actually blew a good second after the ball left his foot.

I'm not disputing the sending off, more questioning whether they had a right to feel aggrieved at the decision to blew for full time?

I watched it this morning actually. If the whistle came after the cross as you claim, it certainly didn’t come “well after the cross”. How long do you think it took for the ball to travel from boot to head? 🤣

It was red card worthy….however I would also argue the ref created this situation. Why did he bother awarding a corner to real and letting them take it if he was just going to blow up and blow up as the ball was in the air in the 6 yard box.

Ref was clearly looking for the attention and controversy

That's a very good point, if you want to "go unnoticed" but.... Can you blow the whistle when the balls out of play? I don't know.

Absolutely!!!! Utterly stupid referee feeling big and clever blowing the whistle at a potentially contentious moment

Fcuking idiot

Aren't you missing the main point here though? Bellingham should have accepted the decision, no lives were lost, it's a sporting moment and that has to be borne in mind

It’s a good point but this is a mega passionate sport, and therefore emotions running high, Bellingham was obviously wrong but why aren’t the referees association going to sit that referee down and ask him; why blow the whistle at that moment; like, what were you thinking and expecting?

Almost like the ref wanted the limelight more than the players!
