Booing taking the knee

Why? I heard the booing and didn’t call it racist. Not everything needs to be.
You’re right not everything needs to be deemed racist. In this case though, the people who boo know that it will have a triggering effect on those who support it such that it will be deemed racist by a large proportion of those people.

Saying it’s racist is no different to booing it, it’s a matter of opinion. If the people booing want their opinion heard (hence why they boo), they have to accept that others will also have an opinion on why they’re booing it.

Has anyone defending it given an answer as to why people are booing if it's not to show their disapproval of an anti-racist gesture?

"It's a free country" isn't an answer by the way.

Nor is "not all players kneel".

I mean if you think it's not because they're anti anti racism, then you have to put forward an alternative theory because the "anti anti racism" one is by far the most logical answer.

Closely followed by them just being too thick to understand what they're booing.

I'm really struggling to think of any other reason. Happy to be enlightened though.

This is it exactly

I sometimes politely ask somebody why they are booing the anti racism gesture (as long as they don't look too much like a psychotic murderer, I'm not a hero). Most common response is a blank look followed by them stopping booing or telling me to **** off.

I long for some kind of rational explanation that would put my mind at rest that I am not sitting near a racist peice of scum, alas I am still waiting for such an explanation.

Another one in the long list of reasons I rarely go to the game these days (and am unlikely to return anytime soon).

Some d*ckhead did it near me at the england Romania game, from memory I think I shouted at him to shut the **** up and called him a racist ******.

I don't buy the "thick" angle either. If you can't understand why booing an anti-racist would be potentially be viewed as racist you shouldn't be let out of the house, let alone into a football stadium. It's the anonymity of the crowd - people thinking they can get away with being racist because they can't be easily identified.

8 pages in and still nobody can explain how booing an anti racism gesture is not itself racist.

‘It’s a free country’

‘Not everybody has to support it’

‘Just be a use I support people who boo the anti racism gesture does t make me a racist’

There some dumbbells on this thread alright

I already have, you simply don’t want to listen - and I’ve not seen anyone give a rational explanation how booing is racist

Nah you really haven’t.. you’ve said it’s pointless virtue signalling… that’s not a reason that’s an excuse and a weak one at that.

It’s been made quite clear both by the football community and many times on this very thread that it is a simple gesture against discrimination. Anyone booing such a thing is surely suggesting they disagree with this gesture and what it stands for. Either that or they’re just idiots who don’t know better.

I appreciate for the hard of thinking that this might be quite complicated but most people seem to get it eventually.

Are you on about the literal act of booing in and of itself is not racist (if so I would agree, booing is not racist).

In the context of booing specifically whilst a team is performing an anti-racism gesture then as this thread has shown, booing in this particular context is massively racist.

Feel free to educate me otherwise, as I've said above, I am waiting for an explanation to put my mind at rest.
