Boris planning to scrap Covid rules completely

There was talk of this before Christmas, although it fits the narrative of him trying to divert attention, that's not the case

So we are all going to get the virus then, the pretence of caring has gone.

let the bodies pile high
Zorro for the majority of people... Covid isn't going to do anything, but give them minor symptoms

YES I know some people can't have the injections, etc - but equally, we can't keep everyone locked up / social distanced forever

There's no real answer, we are going to have to live with it and the sooner we get on with life, the better

Britain is a major country with major transport links, we can't keep ourselves locked away like Australia, New Zealand, etc

It's been 2 YEARS - Come on... it's time we just get on with things

When 150K+ a day are testing positive and 2-300 are dying from it. Well I say it but these are deaths for any reason within 28 days. You have to question how serious this is. There is no doubt the vaccines are doing what they are supposed to. be doing.

150k testing positive for the 1st time, the government figures don't include those catching it for a second.
Deaths within 28 days of a positive test, also excludes people that die of Covid on day 29+.

The govt's methodology for calculating the scale of this has been deliberately imprecise from the get go.

You forgot to mention "from the Spring" in your opening post Zorro. These decisions were bound to come along sooner rather than later.

Covid scientist are increasingly convinced the Omicron variant is acting as a natural vaccine for tens of millions of people around the world as most infected people have no or very mild symptoms, yet their bodies do produce full antibodies.

Many countries are currently seeing record numbers of infections, including the UK, US, most of Europe and Asia, but hospital admissions only show a modest or even no serious increase.

In South Africa, where Omicron was first detected in November, infection rates are dropping rapidly and most experts believe the Omicron wave has passed and other countries should expect the same cycle in the next few months.

Let me ask this. If all covid restrictions are to end, why would we insist on NHS frontline staff being vaccinated? Firstly, and let's forget the moral conundrum, it will decimate the NHS. It will double the shortfall in doctors and nurses. Secondly, are we going to re-instate the care workers who similarly lost their employment due to vaccination status?

It will be interesting to see what happens there.

Not much of it stands up to logical analysis

It's a weird one because NHS frontline staff are already required to be vaccinated against certain things so all they are really doing is adding the covid vaccine to that list. We know that the vaccine reduces transmission so it is better for all staff and all patients if staff are vaccinated. Another reason might just be that patients knowing their healthcare workers have been vaccinated will encourage them to get vaccinated themselves.

Usually I'd agree with the policy and say yes, they should be required to be vaccinated but we're so short staffed across the NHS it is a terrible time to be cutting the workforce.

Allegedly supposed to begin sacking NHS workers within the next two weeks. If your in a car accident and your leg is hanging off I don't think anyone will care if the ER doctor is vaccinated against covid or not.

One wonders if this country will bring in a similar ruling to Greece.

I think it's only hep b that is mandatory today. I think it's fine to introduce mandatory clauses in a work contract, providing they only affect new starters. I am not sure about the morals of firing someone who doesn't agree with the vaccination for themselves.

The major, societal issue is the lack of NHS staff and what this legislation will do to anyone thinking of entering the profession which is expensive to enter and poorly paid.
