Boro fans wanting Leeds to stay up at Everton's expense

If Everton go down f,u-ck-em
If Leicester go down tough

But pro-actively wanting Leeds to stay up I just don't get
Maybe it's just from being there in 1997 and what they were like, but I'll never tire of seeing them relegated

If either Everton or Leicester win Leeds are down - good, I'm delighted
But if Leicester don't win I'll definitely hold my nose and hope Everton do
Looked at the squad values on transfermrkt and Leicester have the most value, so would prefer them to stay up.

Who ever comes down will be strong, but not sure that Leeds will have enough game winners, Bamfords always injured Rodrigo and Gnonto will be sold. They'll spend a bit, but not silly money.

Everton, they'll have a huge cash flow issue. New stadium half built, already massive losses in the transfermrkt. Not sure how much money they'll have and once they sell Pickford and Onana what have they got left? Injury prone players like Calvert-Lewin and Iwobi, players that have been relegated the last two seasons like Tarkowski and McNeil and 30 somethings like Coady, Geuye and Coleman. FFP investigations also ongoing. There would be a huge pressure on that club.

Dislike of Leeds is way before 1997.......dislike of Everton from the slashings during the FA Cup clashes...dislike of Leicester from when Kamark kicked the crap out of the little fella. if only Southampton weren't so crap, could have had all three down.
If Carlsberg did relegations !

Middlesbrough will always be in Yorkshire.
Ancient Cleveland was part of Yorkshire and does not include the area north of the Tees.
Modern Cleveland encompasses Teesside, but both were constructs that lasted a few short years.
Unitary authorities will come and go.

There is no one Yorkshire from a Government perspective. There is North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, plus some Unitary Authorities like Kingston Upon Hull, York, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland.
But there is a very strong Yorkshire identity and the county's boundaries have been established for centuries.

Stockton-on-Tees, Darlington and Hartlepool may be UA's but their identity will always be County Durham.
Middlesbrough, Thornaby/Ingleby, Yarm and Redcar will always be Yorkshire.

Everton will just do what Burnley did and steamroller the division.

Whichever clubs come down will have a few years of PL football behind them.

I'd expect 1 of them to get an automatic place, one to have a playoff season, and one to do a Villa and hang around in the championship for a few years.

I do wonder how deep the financial problems at Leicester are, but I don't think they're looking at a double dip relegation.

I think it's only older Boro fans who think of Leeds as our rivals. I don't see us as being Yorkshire, and I wasn't around when revies Leeds dominated so they are just another club to me.
100% this. Growing up I remember everyone hating the Geordies/Mackems. Leeds were just a club that no one really liked, like Millwall. Only since we lost the regular Tyne/Wear derbies in late 00s has it felt like there's any kind of rivalry with Leeds, and I'm not massively on board with it (even if it existed beforehand). Not least because there are about 20 other clubs closer to Leeds who hate them more than we do.

I'd much rather Everton went down than Leeds. Leeds are a bit of a joke and if they don't go this year, will no doubt in the coming seasons. Everton are one of those annoying clubs that have fans who are so deluded its in comparison with the Geordies, and they just manage to scrape and stay up time and time again. Its about time they went!

Totally agree with your post, I have always said you can be in Teesside, Middlesbrough and North Yorkshire, all at the same time. My response was to a poster who said he doesn’t see us being from Yorkshire though, when we categorically are, the difference may be subtle, but it is fact.
I was born in Middlesbrough and absolutely don't see myself as from Yorkshire BUT I do fairly much agree with you @coluka People can say they're from wherever - it's only people who say 'You cannot say you're from Teesside I'm telling you you're from Yorkshire' that I disagree with

On the topic I raised I dislike Leeds - not from a derby etc viewpoint but because they have an element to their fanbase that I dislike (same with Sunderland). Although obviously Leeds (and Sunderland) will have decent fans. So while I have no love for Everton I'd definitely like them to go down less than Leeds
If Leicester beat them both to 17th good luck to them, but as long as Leeds go down I'm not bothered whether Everton or Leicester survive

Think that some of these big clubs just ignore their financial troubles, don't make cuts to their budget and just plough through. The wisdom was that Burnley would be financially hamstrung and they weren't.
Moshiri is still owed £384m, but it is defined in such a way as it can be classified as equity. They have converted £250m of loan into equity in the last two years.
There is no date by which he can call that £384m in.
They do also have £150m additional loans on which they pay market rate interest c£10m last year.
The Club has healthy Nett Book Value of a quarter of a billion.

Their problem is getting rid of their squad - a squad they can't afford on the wages they are paid.
They are still facing the charges for players that if sold would not cover their book value.

Moshiri wont call in the debt, despite relegation, but he will lose a fortune more in the Championship and in moving the squad on. That should create monster FFP problems. If they don't get out of the Championship they are FFP dead.
The equity injections have save their FFP bacon in the PL, but they can't in the Championship.
Let's see how well the rules are applied to Everton. We know they weren't to Villa.

Having being born/schooled in Stockton and still a regular visiter I would say there is actually very minimal affinity with County Durham, its more with Teesside (which obviously isn't really an official place anymore).

And this is the issue. If you want a team to go down because they have bad fans, you are accepting that their good fans will suffer as collateral. Everton, on the other hand, are a bad thing as a club in terms of what they have done over the past 35 years and deserve to be relegated for that reason. The fans don't come into it.

Mind you, Everton fans made a noise during the minute's silence for Willie Maddren so they all deserve to suffer for that.

Did ALL their fans make a noise? If not I'd say that is more or less the same reasoning
Anyway you could have your dream double relegation with MK Dons already down

I'm not claiming to be a great forecaster but I just cannot see Everton beating Bournemouth.
They've blown more or less every 'must win' game this season
The freak result at Brighton where Brighton hit the woodwork multiple times was an exception
If they win then they've done enough to stay up, if not then they'll be lucky to stay up

Yeah, I work with loads of Leeds fans, all are pretty fair and you can have banter with. They obviously have their bellend section of support, and it's probably a bit bigger than most clubs, but plenty of decent fans too.

That said I live just outside York and one my 5 year old's mates at school almost convinced him to switch allegiance to Leeds so I might have laid it on a bit thick that they're dirty Leeds who no-one likes and always cheat. He probably hates them more than I do now 😂
I went the other way. My mate is a Leeds season ticket holder and use to bring my son scarves and programmes back from his European tours with Leeds. On my son's fifth birthday, he wanted a Leeds shirt and a day watching Leeds at Elland Rd. I obliged him, I got him the Leeds kit, my mate bought us tickets for the game and we went off to Elland Rd. In the pub, they brought out a Leeds United birthday cake with candles for him to blow out. This fad lasted about three months until he realised who his proper team was after regular visits to Ayersom Park and bought a proper kit.

I've got tons of pictures of him in his Leeds kit that I use against him on a regular basis. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. 🤣 🤣 🤣
