Boro fans wanting Leeds to stay up at Everton's expense

If Everton go down f,u-ck-em
If Leicester go down tough

But pro-actively wanting Leeds to stay up I just don't get
Maybe it's just from being there in 1997 and what they were like, but I'll never tire of seeing them relegated

If either Everton or Leicester win Leeds are down - good, I'm delighted
But if Leicester don't win I'll definitely hold my nose and hope Everton do
I always want the teams to come down the ones close to boro so the away fixtures are not to far for the team to travel to
So Leeds and Leicester for me.

This discussion was going on in the early ,90's so it way ahead of that gender debate. I'm proud to be from Yorkshire but I also see my self as Teessider from the North East, because the location of our beloved area means we get to have several cakes and eat them.
Just not Eccles cakes obviously. Lancashire rubbish.

I don’t give a **** about Leeds , that’s why . They’re a club over 60 miles away in a different county and genuinely do not give a single **** about boro . I should know, I live in Yorkshire .

Definitely the words of a man who doesn't give a "****" about Leeds 😉

Are you sure you live in Yorkshire? Doesn't sound like you have the best grasp of where it's boundaries are.

(I agree it's not a derby, but I think it's also possible to hate teams who aren't classed as a derby).

I cant believe any true boro fan would want everton to go down before leeds and certainly no one i know would take that stance.
Depends doesn’t it, I have in laws who support Leeds, my best mate does. Maybe I’d like to see them happy because I don’t have any Everton friends. Not everything has to be binary

From. Selfish point of view though I hope they come down as I’d rather go watch boro vs Leeds than boro vs Everton

Totally agree with your post, I have always said you can be in Teesside, Middlesbrough and North Yorkshire, all at the same time. My response was to a poster who said he doesn’t see us being from Yorkshire though, when we categorically are, the difference may be subtle, but it is fact.

I have a similar view on Leeds,I remember wanting them to win the 1965 F.A. Cup Final v Liverpool mainly because Alan Peacock was playing for them and quite admired their great teams in the Revie era plus one of my neighbours is season ticket holder at Elland Road and is a cracking lad.Don't really have any favourite to be relegated as its' just the consequence of being not good enough over a season as we have found out numerous times.

Prefer Everton to go down personally
If they don’t, and Leeds go, I’ll be happy too
Leicester are good to go cos its an easy away day for me

Its win/win/win

I want Everton for a few reasons. Closer to me so better for away game, they haven't been down in my lifetime, they definitely deserve to because they are rubbish, I have Everton friends.

I don't like Leeds or Leicester really. It's really a case of I want them all to go. There's nobody I am rooting for to stay up

I think Leeds could go down any year but this feels like a now or never moment with Everton and their creative accountancy plus their new stadium.

I think it’s to do with when, and to a lesser extent where, you spent your formative years as a fan. Not because of what the local government structures were at the time though, but because of whether there was a functional rivalry. For me that was Leeds and so it still is.

I grew up in the 70s, which was during the brief 20 year period in the last century when Cleveland County existed and its council ran the Boro. Both before as a county borough and since as a UA the town has run its own affairs since the 1880s while being nominally in the North Riding/ North Yorks for ceremonials. That should make me less, not more likely than both older and younger people to look south. So that can’t be why.

But Leeds were in practice the rivalry that mattered back then, especially after we got in the first division. Especially if you lived south of the river. The schoolyard was full of Leeds glory fans. The matches attracted big crowds and bother. Sunderland only spent a year in the top flight during our stay up there and the Newcastle rivalry really didn’t get going until the late 80s. So it’s always Leeds for me. Just as I subconsciously want Liverpool to fail because they “always win” even though that hasn’t been true for 30 years.

You are correct we are a Yorkshire club, historically from the North Riding, that’s one of the reasons the Mackems try to distance themselves because we are a different mentality to them and their Durham coalfield roots and they know it.

Personally I would love to see Leeds go, I’m not fooled by their charm offensives in recent decades because they have had poor teams, when they were doing well many years ago they were as elitist and deluded as any set of supporters you will come across.

Personally, there's no other team that I'd like to see fail more so, than Leeds United. That includes Newcastle, Sunderland, West Ham, Chelsea, plenty of other clubs.

Actually, if Leeds ceased to exist, it would bring a smile to my face. They are a horrible club, supported by an enormous amount of scumbag fans.

Whilst it would be nice to see Everton fall - after flirting for so many times, I still wouldn't like them to drop at the expense of Leeds United.

Once that FT whistle goes on Sunday, and Leeds are officially relegated, then I'll be cracking open a beer. 😁

I don't really have any hatred for them, not in the same way I do for Sunderland, and to a lesser extent Newcastle to be fair.

Although it would be interesting to see Everton get relegated they would almost certainly go straight back up automatically, so for that reason I'd prefer for Leeds to go down.

Starting to get a feeling both Leeds and Everton will go down though. I can see Leicester beating West Ham.

What makes you think they'd be such a shoe-in for autos?

A lot of their fans are worried sick as they think they'll have no chance of coming back up. They're riddled with debt, plus they have a team that are currently not used to winning a lot of games and playing 50+ games a season.
