Boro move to Digital Ticketing 🎟️

S/T card works well for Chairman Drink and seems quicker that any other card. I guess we will have the flash a S/T QR code.

We are becoming totally dependent on 100% reliable smart phones and becoming 100% tracked.
Not a good day for ticket collectors - or on the other hand if something become scarce then perhaps it is.
We made the leap from season ticket books to cards very quickly but this move will be slower with lots of assistance is what I have been assured.
I hope people are reassured following my call with the club - that a lot of information and help will be forthcoming and all change will be gradually phased in and no one will be excluded for not having a smart phone.

Near Field Communication.

Basically an upgraded version of infra-red
Cheers - does it have an icon? such as Wifi sign? or bluetooth sign?

My Motorola smartphone is about 30 months old, it works well with flashing the LIDL App - I guess it should have NFC to do that.

What does NFC stand for?

I do voluntary work as steward at an Arts Centre and about 50% of visitors now have tickets on their phone and 50% physical. The tickets on the phone are usuauly linked to emails, so a mobile signal is required. The Riverside is awful for me for mobile signal once the stadium is full I am very glad is going to be improved.

My thoughts is there should options for the next 2 years at least for fans to have either physical or digital for season tickets and match day. Improving digital access is a good thing, but forcing every single fan down a digital smartphone route is definitely not right. Some organisations are strsating to do it and I think they are probably breaking the Equalities Act. Some said it was because of Covid, but they can't use that reason today. Its not inclusive to force everyone down one access path.
People should download the tickets from the email to the phone so they don't need connectivity. As others have said, with NFC, the "card" is stored on the phone, so no connectivity is required.

Every now and then technology lets you down, on my previous phone, my battery just died for no reason after I showed the train ticket to the guard, which was fine till another guard came on board further down the track asking to see all tickets. That was fun !

Same people I know who don't have smartphones don't use e-mails either. Don't think one even has an email account.

There will be advice on what to do. This will be expected. But unless you are a new season card holder you will be entering the Millwall game in the same way as always.

Quite a few over 80s don't have email but still can get to games. I am not one by the way.

Quite a few people born say around 1940 never used email at work or were not regular users.

They have got by with old mobile phones and paper or someone helping them.

I agree but in my experience quite a few don't. Not sure everyone is fully competent is using their smartphones, even though they have one. Tend to be older users.

Example of a problem - I had a woman in her 60s come with a group others to a Fleetwood Mac cover band performance last week. They turned up one minute before the start and had a one of two drinks. The theatre light had dimmed and she showed me an email on her phone with her ticket on. I could only read the seats numbers in the tickets and let them through. 10 seconds later she said people were in her seats. I checked the other peoples physical tickets and they were fine so I asked her to go to the book office downstairs. She was adamant it was my job to sort it out and she wanted her seats. I got the manager to speak to her. The manager took her phone into a well lit area and enlarged her ticket on screen. The email she was looking at was for March and for another show. She did have another email for the right performance but in completely different seats. The Theatre does not have electronic scanners. The woman did not apologise.

The bottom line to all this is cost. Maybe some initial outlay but eventually cost savings to make going forward. Like season ticket books moving to card, no more (or a lot less) staff to man the turnstiles. Now e tickets, so no costly card to make and send out, automated systems meaning less staff to man the ticket office. The club is a business at the end of the day and that's what business does.

So we will get a reduction when costs are met😂😂😂😂

Don't understand why anyone would complain.

In fact, we're behind the times as a lot of clubs already have this system implemented.

Most places that require a ticket, are now digital.

Cinemas, festivals, music gigs and most sports.

Even getting transport nowadays, you need your phone to scan....buses/tubes etc.

People will just moan for moaning sake.

Not sure how it can be slower, a ticket code via Apple wallet takes seconds to access. It’s a far easier and secure way than having to post out tickets, queue for collection etc.
have you been to an airport where people have electric boarding passes etc, takes them an age to find it on their phone, then they start to panic, then they lock their phone, then the rest of the family get involved, then they pull out the printed one that they brought just in case. Yep much quicker

So for any none ST holders, the walk up supporters, the part timers, the ones Boro think of as second class citizens.....every ticket now has £1.50 stuck on it. So cheap seats (as of last season's prices) are £32.50. A stealth increase if you like. Nice 👍

95% of the time you opt for print at home / digital tickets it's supposed to save you the postage etc (but not shysters like Ticketmaster etc). Certainly when I book Stockport County tickets, print at home/digital is free. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

This additional cost is a bit bollox isnt it?

Good job we are all so affluent and there actually isn't a cost of greed crisis going on ☹️☹️

You are wrong on some items you quoted. Cinemas, buses, tubes. You can use your cash card on all of those.

Easy to say this is purely about cost, but it's also about getting with the times. For long times fans have complained about not having digital tickets for match days, having to print out etc. Now it's here, and fans will complain because quite frankly that is what they do.

Very few of those use NFC ticket systems yet. I’ve been to maybe two gigs that have used NFC. All the rest are still based on scanned QR codes. It’s becoming quite common at football but it’s still unusual. Especially as a sole option.

Edit: that’s a reply to the wrong message obvs. Intended for @Marvanelli
