Brentford go top of the league

I don't know about them being marvellous, went to watch Boro at Griffin park last season and was genuinely impressed by the friendliness of the Brentford fans. No segregation in any of the pubs we went into or stood outside. Great Beer. A ground that took you back to the old days. Would have gone to new ground this year if I could. Hence I have a soft spot for them and hope they do well.
Which pub did you go in? Not segregation as such but I always found the Griffin and the beehive not exactly friendly. I love pretty much every other pub round there mind

The new clubs tend to be in the South East of England (Bournemouth, Brentford and Watford) you can also add in Brighton and maybe even Palace, Reading and Norwich. All clubs more seen in current division 1 than the higher leagues.

While the old names struggling tend to be in the North - Bolton, Blackpool, Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday - although Pompey, Charlton and Ipswich are struggling too this season.

I think the performance of teams has shown some corelation with the economic climate of their areas and appeal to foreign investors since 1979. To my knowledge only 1 club in the English Premier League is not from a City.

There are plenty of cities that don't have a Prem League team. Portsmouth, Plymouth, Exeter, Bristol, Swansea, Cardiff, Stoke, Chester, Preston, Carlisle, Sunderland, York, Hull, Nottingham, Derby, Peterborough, Milton Keynes, Norwich, Chelmsford, St Albans, Guildford and Bath to name a few off the top of my head.

Maybe there isn't much of a correlation between cities and Prem League teams.

Can't remember. There was an Irish pub, absolutely packed so had a couple of pints of Guinness there, tremendous fish and chip shop just down the road and the pub just on the opposite side of the road. That was 1 of the 4 corner pubs. Didn't get to see the new ground, but it looks a short stroll from the old ground, so hopefully the pubs will survive. Fingers crossed can go next season to watch Boro play them in the premier League.

Yeah it’s about a 15 min walk from the old ground. Hopefully the pubs on the corner will survive. Hair before Covid struck one of them was closed for a year and rebranded as the brook. Terrible timing. It looks nice but it can only have been open a few months before it had to close again 😟
