Brentford?

Brentford fell to their fifth consecutive defeat today leaving them fifth bottom and only four points above relegation. I know Ivan Toney is back in January and they need him to hit the ground running to move them away from the danger zone but, it was reported on the BBC today that Brentford are considering selling Toney in January due to his contract due to expire in the summer of 2025 for £100 m. I tend to agree with MVBoro that they need his goals and the summer would be a better option but we all know money talks.

Brentford have four long term injuries with two of them due back at the beginning of February, another due to return in March, and one player out for the season. They also have a further three injured players that are expected to return in January and Ben Mee is suspended until 20th Jan. As we know, it is hard to have nine of your squad missing.

Although it is not time to panic, their fans must be looking over their shoulder at the other teams trying to pull them into a relegation battle and getting a bit edgy.

Everton getting dragged back into it too. Funnily enough, Burnley play well but get no points. They need a strong second half to the season to stand a chance of survival. Think all three promoted teams will eventually go down but Burnley and Luton will give it a good fight.

Brentford are getting beat 4-1 by West Ham and are getting dragged right into the relegation battle now that Everton have got four points back.

Brentford are only 5 points above Luton but I feel the charges to Everton and Forest just might save a few teams this season.

Watching the end of this game, Brentford players don't look interested and are standing off the West Ham players and letting them play around them.

That Luton game in hand is the unknown quality.

Beat Bournemouth and they could have a sniff of safety even if Forest avoid a deduction and Everton dodge a second one.

That game does look key and could open things right up. For me, Luton could do with going out of the cup to Man City tomorrow.

As with all the teams that are aiming to survive, all it takes is a bit of a loss of form, lose a few key players especially up front (Toney and Mbeumo) and a few more injuries, and you are bound to struggle. For a lot of premier league teams, you are never far away from a relegation struggle. Can't take anything for granted.

There used to be a Brentford fan write on here, Beesotted or something like that.
Haven’t heard anything from him for a while.
