Brexit good news

In the interests of balance: I understand the city is going to start trading Swiss shares again. This comes after thee EU banned them last year. I still find it sad that we have to isolate ourselves from Europe to get on but this is a good step.

Small town. Did you watch that channel 4 podcast Timothy Snyder ?
Link below; fascinating and he has nailed it on Britain and although he talked mainly about trump and his impact on politics in the USA and worldwide he went onto articulate how Britain will become just England soon as the Uk breaks up and basically explaining how England will be irrelevant in many respects
Great the way he offered a potted history of the lost empire and how eh membership replaced that yet no more.

I see a real decline in the country in the years ahead (5 to 10 but could come quicker) and it’s Canary Islands for us before too long.

ST - I'm not convinced that this is a genuine attempt by you to start finding some Brexit positives!?

Would be great if it was, but I suspect that there is a large pinch of sarcasm? (y)

Trading in Swiss stocks on the EU exchanges was banned by the Swiss, not by the EU. This was in response to the EU removing equivalency from the Swiss exchange meaning EU shares could not be traded on the Swiss exchange.

When trading in Swiss stocks became concentrated on the Swiss exchange and circa 1 in 4 orders were executed opposed to circa 1 in 7. Spreads improved resulting in better prices for investors, fragmenting again will reverse this.

The initial ban was not Brexit related, but the U.K. being out of the EU has allowed this to occur although legislation required.

Conversely I listened to an interview with Joe Biden who speaks so well (I had no idea how likeable he was) and he thinks that even in the shyte situation we will eventually find our way somehow.

He talked about people being hoodwinked at times of difficulty, blaming emerging fears on the current bogeyman; be that foreigners or people who are different.

He talked about how important we were in the EU for the USA as a voice and a ballast. I suspect they'll not be playing nicely with the current bunch of Bozos in power in the UK and one can only hope the power the USA hold over us may have an impact.

It seems he's renowned for being positive almost to the point of naivety, which may be due to having basically lost all of his family tragically through illness or the car accident that killed his wife and daughter. But for my kids sake I hope he's right.

Looking back you forget the relative golden days of 1997 to 2010. They were my only frame of reference so I totally took them for granted. I worry my kids won't see days like that.

Here's the link to that podcast of anybody is interested https://shows.acast.com/5dbc6897c791828a3b06b58b/episodes/5dbc68b65f043c8758d13823

The UK will not end soon. Another Indy vote is at least 5 years away and should Scots vote yes, the break away will take years. It took 4 years to eventually leave the EU. Imagine untangling 300 years of Union? Scotland is falling into the same trap that many Brexit supporters did. It will not be a case of handing in your notice and walking away after 3 months.

If it does eventually happen, England will need to seriously look at how things are. The country needs to ditch the myth of a mighty Empire. A population of 55 million pales into insignificance compared to China, USA, India, Russia, Indonesia, Japan and many others.

England has many strong points and could reshape into a social conscience society. That needs political bravery and turning away from neoliberalism.

Who on earth is going to sanction a Scottish Referendum any decade soon. Johnson won't and Starmer just said no as well.

Jim and hicton.
The boards 2 stock Tories clutching at straws because the pressure from voting Scots will become too much after they’ve been dragged out of the EU against their will !
Extreme right have ruined this country and Biden won’t cut Boris any favours as Biden gets closer to the eu
Effing Tories. So much to answer for as they mistakenly think England is big enough to throw its weight around
BREAKING NEWS; IT ISNT.

Good grief what sparked that rant. Just for the record I do not vote Tory and prefer the more balanced approach rather than the punch and Judy tribal politics. If Scotland eventually vote for Independence I have no problem with that but I would be surprised if they were allowed to hold one any decade soon.

"Allowed to hold one"

Whether they're allowed to hold one or not, they'll have one and we'll have a mess of Catalan proportions on our hands. Only we don't have enough police to crack down on protestors!
