Britt Assombalonga looks set to make a deadline-day move to Bristol City

BRITT ASSOMBALONGA is set to complete a £2m move to Bristol City tomorrow – with Robins striker Famara Diedhiou under consideration as one of the Middlesbrough captain’s potential replacements.

Bristol City officials held talks with the Middlesbrough hierarchy over the weekend, and are ready to table a formal offer for Assombalonga, who has entered the final six months of his current contract on Teesside.

Neil Warnock is willing to sanction Assombalonga’s departure, with the skipper having been an unused substitute in Saturday’s goalless draw at Norwich City.
However, the Boro boss will only allow the club’s record signing to leave ahead of tomorrow’s 11pm deadline if a guaranteed replacement is already in place.

That replacement could be Diedhiou, although there is little realistic chance of the two forwards being involved in a swap deal.

If Diedhiou does move to the Riverside tomorrow, it will be in a separate transfer to the one that is set to take Assombalonga to Ashton Gate.

Warnock has been monitoring Diedhiou’s position all month, with the 28-year-old, like Assombalonga, due to become a free agent in the summer.

Diedhiou played the full 90 minutes of Bristol City’s 1-0 defeat at Derby County, but has been told he does not have a long-term future with the Robins.

Middlesbrough are ready to offer him a move to Teesside, although he is not the club’s only deadline-day attacking target.

Warnock will make early-morning inquiries about another couple of options before deciding on his next move, having already brought in Yannick Bolasie and Darnell Fisher in the last four days.
There are likely to be deadline-day departures, with Boro willing to listen to loan offers for Lewis Wing and Hayden Coulson.

Look at it this way - we save over 800K in salary - so were not far short of 3M give or take some loose change. I dont think we will miss him. Invariably inconsistent and a burden to others on far less, who try hard, but are more often than not, let down.

Interesting loaning Wing. I'm not sure how it 'helps'. I doubt he's on big money and he's better than not having him (you know what I mean😂).

It leave us a bit short in CM unless Hackney has really impressed. We basically have Howson / Morsy and Sav until Tav is fit.

I could maybe understand selling Wing and Coulson more. Just don't overly get loaning them especially as it's likely to be a champo side.

I always thought Coulson should be trained to play down the right and cut inside to blast the ball at the goal a la Gareth Bale. I don't think he is a full back but could be turned into an interesting or unusual attacking player.

It is hard for Wing because he just has the odd game to go on, or a handful of minutes here and there. I like him but think we'll move him on. I think he gets a bit of unfair stick off Boro fans - it was only a year ago that he was expected to be the team's sole creative player. If he does move on then we'll have more than had our money's worth and will probably make a sizeable profit on him. Which is exactly what the club should be doing really, buying cheap and developing and then moving them on for profit.

As for Assombalonga, I don't think he'll be missed. The performances against Forest and Rotherham sum him up. He probably averages one really good performance a month, which isn't anywhere near enough. He might starved of service/support at times but he doesn't do enough, IMO.

At this moms in time he won’t be leaving, it may well boil down to city accepting a lower bid than £2m for their striker got this whole deal to happen, otherwise Britt will remain here .

Coulson doesn’t shoot, and when he does it’s normally high and wide. Don’t see him at that type of player really his best asset for me is short bursts past a defender but it’s once he’s past the defender is when it goes wrong
