Broadband help please

We're getting CityFibre installed in our area at the moment. Recently agreed a new 18 month contract with VM too. Annoying!

This is why the new CityFibre and YouFibre networks are so needed. Previously I had the choice of an intermittent 1Mbps connection with BT or paying far too much for a Fibre connection with Virgin. Now there’s another Fibre network in the town, there’s a much needed competitor. Virgin will either have to reduce prices or face losing a lot of customers on Teesside.
They will. VM put my price up to 67 per month for 250mb when my deal ended.

I sacked them off and got youfibre instead for about 30 per month for 1gb.

Touch wood, youfibre has been much more reliable as well, VM used to drop out all the time.

Also, VM were so abysmal when it came to trying to cancel, they kept cutting me off when I was getting put through to cancellations.

The Virgin cable network is 30 or so years old now and isn’t fibre all the way to the door like the CityFibre and YouFibre networks. The last section is copper cable from the cabinet to the door.

Cancelling with them has always been a hassle but they will have been getting hammered with the new networks coming online just as the price rises were announced so I can imagine it’s worse than ever now.

Better than copper all the way to the exchange though, as is the case with me.

Me too.... and the exchange is between 3 and 4 km away... max download about 1.5 Mb (bits or bytes and can't remember) and upload about 0.5M... bordering on useless and I'm not sure whether it is worth having it looked at what with all the lines being dropped within 2 years. Glum is me - we spend a smal fortune on Gigabytes to get data from the local mast.

All new builds at Virgin Media are Fibre to the premise and by Circa 2028 they will have Fibre to the Premise for all customers.

BT will have Fibre to all their customers by 2026

Both using similar technologies.
Get 1gb up, 1 gb down for £29.99 a month youfibre with 3 months for £1 as welcome offer, 2 free extra months if referred and no installation charge

Works out equivalent of £23 a month for asynchronous 1gb connection. Takes some beating
This is a great deal and it it exactly the same sales / deals The cable companies (Comcast in Teesside ) used in the 1990’s to break BT’s strangle hold. This is why if it’s available we should be taking advantage of the the great service at great prices whilst they are available.
