What is best butchers around that is affordable, local or online?

Looking for mainly joints and steaks

Supermarket meat is getting so bad now.

Someone told me that Bolam's over on Portrack is supposed to be pretty good. I've never been myself yet mind!

If you want quality - find a beef/lamb or pig farmer. That is the only way you will get quality. And, you will pay.

Your local butcher is pulling it in from all over Europe as cheap as they can get it. Quality is the last thing on their minds.
You will get it cheaper for sure.

The odd butcher will have proof of provenance - but, again, you will pay.

Yeah Donald Russell is excellent. The prices are a bit steep but they do offers and bundles at various times, plus send you discounts periodically.

always gone to Kitsons and now five houses

I was recommended Bolam's and got some chicken breasts, mince and a few other bits. The chicken was awful quality and the mince was full of squeaky bits of gristle

It was cheap but really bad quality

For my smoker I buy stuff online but standard stuff five houses has everything

5 Houses are great, but you pay for the quality. Also Mainsgill is very good as well. They usually have a stall at the local Farmers Markets, if you dont want to travel to their farm shop

Hutchison and hobs and Blackwells both excellent
Five houses is decent but a bit up and down
Mainsgill very good if you want to travel abit further on the a66 near barny
Bowlams is shîte been once and never again.

Bolams ranges from ok to poor, I’ve been a few times for BBQ supplies.
In addition to those above there’s one out at Richmond meant to be really good

Not local, and no longer particularly cheap but it is exceptional value when you consider quality. The main place I buy my beef from these days…..
