It's never come to light later that a secret deal had been done, and in an industry that's incapable of keeping secrets, I don't believe it happens and we don't find out about it

It’s more just acceptance I think. We’re a club who sells our best players when we get good bids for them. It’s what we are now, that’s been clear for years. So people like to talk about fees in that knowledge.

I am certain we’ll make at least 1 big sale this summer. I’d take £18m if offered for Hackney. More than happy for him to stay though.

You may be right but, I think if you give a bloke from Teesside a bag of gold, they’d whinge about how heavy it was. I just think we can be a tad defeatist.

It’s who we have always been and will probably always be the case. It’s just that we’ve never really had multiple players wanted by bigger clubs in successive windows.

I think we all thought this would be Hackney’s last season with us if we didn’t get promoted. If we can get over £20m with a decent sell on fee it’s good business and should leave us with a significant budget for reinforcements. I’d like to keep him if possible though. If he can stay fully fit all next season, he will be a huge asset with the right players around him.

Well I suppose it depends whether you see selling him as “defeat”. You could flip it and view it as yet another big success for our academy, with a sizeable fee incoming.

In truth he went off the boil before his injury. I’ve no doubt at all he’ll get back to where he was if he stays, but whose to say if he’ll get any better than that? Have we got a Jude Bellingham on our hands? I’m really not sure about that tbh.

Keeping him, if offered £18m+, is as much a gamble as selling him. Just my opinion of course.

Opinions make the game we all love, you make a good point, I know it’s a pipe dream but I’d love to see us competing or at least giving anyone a game with a team of ‘our’ players.
