Bye Bye Hackney?

Adam Wharton and Alex Scott both moved for 18 mill +.

Hackney is easily in that bracket.

I hope he stays. Not that I give any credence to some twitter random but it's going to be a looooong summer with our own fans talking down the value of our players.
We'll see.

I'm thinking he would be better off going to spurs if he leaves.
He feels like a spurs type player.
Either way it is what it is
We are going to sell.him it's an exciting time for the young man and I wish him well

Selling your best players is very rarely a recipe for success - how is Carrick supposed to get the side promoted when his best players are sold every year. Unless you can unearth a young talent no one else has spotted somewhere else for peanuts, or have a ready made replacement already in the academy you need to shell out big money to replace him. Sell McGree if we need to raise a few quid.

To play devil's advocate, by last summer Scott had more championship appearances than Hackney has for us now, scored more championship goals than Hackney has now, while being 2 years younger than Hackney is now.

I'm biased towards Hackney of course, but a neutral might take this as evidence that Scott was a better prospect than Hackney.Good Devil's advocating to be fair. and to be further fair, I've no idea how good Scott is.

Hackney IS class though.
Hackney is class, as is Adam Wharton who is ripping it up at Palace. I see Hackney at a proper big club eventually and think he'd be better off biding his time and trying to get promoted with the Boro next season, taking his hometown club up to the Prem as the kingpin. As with McGree, I kind of think we're 'owed' a good season by the player after a season of injuries - and in McGree's case, the Asian Cup. Not that it's their fault, just that the manager and team as a whole was really developing the season before and it would be good to let that play out before we start breaking it all up.

They'll probably both be flogged though, because that's the world we live in.

Carrick is negotiating a contract extension as we speak. In his words he loves it here.
Oh I know, he's going nowhere.

I assumed the post I replied to was made in jest so was responding to what I assume was a facetious comment poking fun at previous rumours about Carrick.

Hence the "there it is" because it's such an inevitable rumour for someone to make up.

That's exactly the plan isnt it? I appreciate that what you plan for is not always a guarantee of achieving that goal, but when you look at who we have plucked out of obscurity in the last couple of windows, and the young lads from the academy getting their stripes - we're on our way to getting the model to work.
Lots of moving parts though aren't there. But I for one think it is achievable to do exactly what you suggest we cant.

For some reason a great number of our supporters seem desperate to see our players go. The other thread about how much we’ll get for Lathe in the summer is indicative of that mindset.
Yes, don't really understand it - are they getting a percentage of the fee?

So this is what the summer's going to be like? Much prefer it when we have performances to whinge about on here instead of transfer speculation! Perhaps the Euros, T20 World Cup and Olympics can prove an adequate distraction?

£18mil is in the same ball park is what I'm hearing from good source and is a bid Boro would seriously consider.
There's more than West Ham seriously interested though so I don't think that it's a done deal like the thread suggests and could help drive the price up.

Not sure what a Spurs type player actually constitutes. Band of bottle jobs probably best sums them up.
