Cameron Archer - Wasted

I thought Villa just had the option, relegated or not?
If (when) Sheff Utd go down, Villa have a release clause in his contract to buy him back.....which pretty much looks like a circumnavigated loan deal. Villa have held all of the cards in this "transfer". Not 100% sure but if he returns to Villa for next season, they haven't actually lost any money on him? 🤷🏻‍♂️

He’s a great championship striker, I’m not sure he’s ready for the Premier league just yet.
I can certainly agree with that, though I think getting regular playing time for an established team in the match day squad he'd have kicked on..

For me his main quality is finishing & esp hitting the target, when he's in the box..

Archers, style suited the way we played last season, with good players up front around him.

Akpom ghosting into space, taking defenders with him, Ramsey (when fit, with his pace again making space, our team was very attacking last year 84 goals scored

Not sure he would have the same explosive impact playing alongside Azaz and Greenwood, yes he would still score goals, but you need good players around you to feed off, Azaz Greenwood or Akpom Ramsey... mmm let's think?

Can't imagine Villa invoking the buy back clause. That was inserted incase they dropped a ******* and he smashed 20 goals this season. He'll either smash it for sheff utd in the championship next season, or go to a newly promoted team. I could see him at somewhere like Ipswich if they go up.

Villa will have sold him for circa 15m and then will “buy him back for 15m”. That will be amortised over 5 years so gave them a 15m ffp boost this year dropping to 12 next, 9 the year after and at some point they sell him for 15m anyway

I believe it was an absolute done deal. It was certainly reported as such at the time.

Yeah it’s an obligation if they go down -only “option” for Villa was if Sheff Utd stayed up it’s an option to buy back. Essentially a dodgey FFP loophole

I think it’s really hard to judge what archer has it has not achieved this season. The lad is a premier league striker.

seems to be involved in anything decent that has happened. Responsible for the point at Everton at the start of the season, also as posted on antoher thread the games they’ve won hes started.

Also helped them to a point today coming off the bench

He's definitely Premier League quality. Sometimes moves just don't work out for players. A finisher as good as Archer could score goals at any level. His movement is brilliant and he has a good burst of pace. I would love him back here but wages would no doubt be a bit of a stumbling block now.

Archer had a decent start to his Sheff Utd career. This is whilst playing in one of the worst teams the PL has ever seen - and that isn't an exaggeration.

Then in comes Mr CV as their new manager, who has the biggest chip on his shoulder in football, and refuses to play him.

Aston Villa would be sensible to buy him back, knowing fine well there'd be plenty of offers for him in the summer.

He's a cracking striker.

He probably is, but his time at Sheff Utd shows he isn't a guarentee of goals at this level. It'll reduce his value and/or create a bigger perception of risk.
