Car Theft - Keyless Car Crime

Huh ? I have one key, just not the other one.

Where did you pay £480 out of interest, this wasn't even main dealer just a website I found.
I just paid at the BMW garage but maybe I wasn’t clear I don’t have the contactless keys, I have the push button and that’s what cost me about £480.

Lot of them (high end) go to Cyprus and UAE? which are still right hand drive. And a lot are chopped up for parts, on eBay before the coppers turn up
UAE is def not RHD... also without GCC specs these cars would not last the summer months here... inadequate engine cooling systems and A/C being the first two issues you would encounter...

Yeah this is contactless, but that's a massive leap from £480 to what I've been quoted.
I was totally taken a back I thought it would cost me £50 - I’ve never lost one before so my expectations were soon quashed. Unbelievable the prices they charge for these things!!

To be honest I expected about £600 as I knew they weren't cheap, but that quote of £1600 was way more than I was expecting, May contact the main dealer and see if they're any cheaper (unlikely). I wouldn't care, I only need another key to prepare to sell it, it may be that the value they knock off for only having one key is less than it would cost me.

Exactly the same reason why I replaced my key !! I’m certain once sold and everything I will find the missing key. I literally turned my house upside down to find that key but no luck!!!

While we're talking about car keys, I've lost one of mine (well my wife has) and just been quoted £1600 for a replacement :oops::confused:
That's an outrageous price Lizards! How on earth can they justify that price?

I'm glad that I binned off car ownership a while back (one of the benefits of living close to my place of work).

Dunno to be honest, but I'm obviously going to find another quote and see if it's any more reasonable.

They all, many, have android / apple screens in them now, surely they can setup some form of MFA to the users phone, to confirm they are driving the car..

Owners should be able to set proximity of their mobile to start it also.

Maybe as someone said earlier car manufacturers are not that bothered because it means to sell another one. You’d think the insurance industry would put pressure on car manufacturers to improve things if it’s going up by 20%!!!

The insurance industry doesn't want them more secure either, they just add the increased risk/ cost onto the tab, and the public foot the bill, and the government gets more tax.

If they're making 5% of whatever, they want premiums as high as possible, so need excuses to put them up.

Keyless cars, I can only dream.

We’ve got a 96 Nissan micro and a 97 Toyota prado, with 500k on the clock.

Not even push a button to open the doors you have to insert the key into the door (do have central locking though)

Never had a problem too much round here with cars being stolen, but we are very rural.

Our issue is deisel being taken, sheds broken into and chainsaws, farming gear being taken.

Oh and rustling. Unfortunately you do find the carcass about a mile down the road after they have taken the meat off it.
