Carrick all season and we are premier league

and a few too many goals conceded.
This is the biggie. We had a soft underbelly before he came and he only marginally improved it.

I guess Giles is really a winger, smith a specialist wing back and fry/McNair swapped around in one cb role. We didn’t have a specialist CDM either. From a defensive out of the ball perspective Lenihan is the only one I was really happy with. There’s loads of scope to improve that if we get the right players in.

Balance is always the key word and we were very clearly set up to score, rather than prevent us conceding.

Maybe that's something Carrick is happy with, but I personally doubt it and I think we'll be a more solid team next season, possibly at the expense of scoring a couple.

Whoever does come in needs to be able to look after the ball, so it will be interesting to discover who we are looking at.

Wish i had your belief. I think we will have a fight on just to make the playoffs. Probs be the best championship ever some big clubs of similiar stature and ambition in there. Also some with huge pots of money and we all know who theyl be.

Realistic competition will be:

Southampton
Leicester & Leeds (assuming they go down, they’ll have all the pulling power)
Watford
Norwich
West Brom
Stoke (They showed how good they were when they played off, fancy them to do bits next season)
Sunderland
Millwall
Blackburn

Any of those could well be at the top. Going to be difficult.

Stoke collapsed after they played really well against us and had a really poor end to the season
Blackburn will go backwards without Brereton Diaz
Sunderland will go backwards without Diallo
Millwall probably just about reached their ceiling flirting with the play off places

I think Preston could go well
Plus don't forget the losers in the play off final

Think we will be a very good side and get play offs. Can’t see top 2 though.

I'd think Luton would come back strong, Coventry is hard to tell because they'll lose their talisman but only get half the money for him.
