I really struggle with this idea about how well they would do in our league over time. I mean they would have a completely different history, if dominated by other teams like Man Utd, they may never have built up any significant fanbase. These 45-55K crowds are a relatively new thing. It's only the last 30 years that they either club have had crowds comparable to the biggest clubs in England, and to be honest if they were watching prem football their myopic world of rangers vs celtic would disappear and the city would have loads of Utd, Liverpool and City fans. Like every other prem city. I would doubt 50k people would turn up every week to see them beaten and battered regularly. The crowds are there because they win every week
Anyway I've had a browse at the relative historical attendances to put them into perspective (feel free to check yourself if you like, sources below), here is a mixed scottish-english all time attendance table:
- Manchester United – 40,360
- Liverpool – 34,763
- Arsenal – 34,701
- Tottenham – 34,101
- Newcastle – 32,757
- Chelsea – 32,473
- Everton – 31,738
- Man City – 30,394
- Aston Villa – 28,594
- RANGERS - 26,978
- Sunderland – 25,811
- West Ham – 25,786
- Leeds – 25,768
- CELTIC - 24,574
- Sheffield Wednesday – 21,402
- Wolves – 20,731
- Birmingham – 20,094
- Middlesbrough – 19,780
- Leicester – 19,486
- West Brom – 19,430
So there you go Rangers similar to Villa or Sunderland. Celtic similar to Leeds or Sheff Wed. They are as likely to find themselves in the third division as mid table in the prem on current evidence.

How England’s top four divisions look based on all-time average attendance - Fan Banter
How England’s top four divisions look based on all-time average attendance has been revealed and it’s got plenty of talking online. Stoke Sentinel have settled arguments about what makes a big club or otherwise for as long as there has been football, going as far back at 1889, yes, we’re going...
