Cheers Tav

Which stats?

One goal and one assist?
Most chances created, most shots, top xG and xA, most dribbles completed, most tocujes in the box, highest successful tackle percentage. Marcus Tavernier is basically the ideal stats-based player in our entire squad.

I guess it's a shame those pointless stats don't score us goals or keep us clean sheets. The only ones I'm bothered about are his goal contributions.

I'd love to know how they define chances created and well his shooting is woeful.

People said that about Brighton last season. They've proved this year that perseverance with a system that stats are pointing towards does eventually attune players to that style and makes them perform far better overall.

Chances created include crosses into the box, key passes, set piece deliveries, amongst other passes which may lead to goalscoring opportunities.

Think that's a bit silly. It's a boro supporters message board. You can't really claim you're being "hunted" if a few posters stick up for a player you're slating.
It isn't just about this one player.

I could start any thread and they would do the same.

The simple thing would be for them to comment solely on the player and tell me why they think im wrong but no they won't do that...

Tonight was the first time it looked like he'd taken "coaching" on board, namely get your head up and don't shoot every time you receive the ball. Unfortunately this resulted in him adding absolutely nothing to the game.

OP has a point like. He's been absolute guff this season.

I've never warmed to him personally - never been as good as people claim. His output has never been that good either. He's a "decent" player and thats it, not a nailed on starter for me.

What I'm really not liking at the moment is this billy big time attitude he seems to have. He thinks he's an elite level player when he's not even remotely close. I mentioned it a couple of weeks ago in another thread, his attitude stinks.

Put it this way, if there was a wide attacking position up for grabs and it was a choice between Tav and say....Marvin Johnson. I'd honestly go for Johnson.

Good sensible post 👍🏻

'It isn't just about this one player.'

You do appear more than a little obsessed with this particular one though. He wasn't even our worst player last night. He made an awful error for the goal but was also involved a lot more than others on the pitch, was involved in the build up to the goal and was always looking to receive the ball.

He's going through a rough patch but he's still competing, he's not hiding, and despite his number of appearances is still a young player.
