While we are going through an iffy patch, I think the calls for Wilder’s head are a bit short sighted, personally, and I’m as frustrated as anyone with the way the season has started .
Thought it may be worth taking a minute to a remind ourselves of his past record.
These are all the clubs he has managed -

Alfreton Town - champions Northern Counties (East) League Premier division. Also winners of The League Cup, The President‘s Cup and the Derbyshire Senior Cup)

Halifax - losing play off finalists. Halifax liquidated ☹️

Oxford - Promotion to League 2 via play offs

Northampton
- Promotion to League 1 as champions, having taken over the season before, when the club was in a relegation spot

Sheffield Utd - Promotion to Championship as champions. ( Sheff Utd were bottom with 1 point after 4 games….)
- Promotion to Premier league as Championship runners up.
- 9th placed finish in the Premier League.

Obviously that’s all in the past and all that matters is the here and now, BUT surely that record means he is worth having patience with? For years people have moaned about recruitment team and we clearly came up short this summer, but we played some cracking stuff last season and we have in spurts this season too, despite the inconsistency and mistakes.
For me, that record shows this guy knows how to get success and for that reason I think it’s time to put our big boy pants on and get behind him. All this sacking/walking away talk seems absolutely nuts so early into his tenure. People calling him clueless and a fraud etc, well history would suggest that’s a complete load of old bollox!
He‘ll get it right, I just hope he gets given the time to do it with us.

What was Neil Warnock's past record again?

Google it yourself 😂. Something like 8 promotions in 35 years….
He was very much on the way down when we had him though, and Wilder is a relative baby in experience terms compared to Warnock.
But this isn’t Wilder v Warnock. Everybody knows Warnock’s record. I’m really not sure everybody knows what Wilder had done prior to Sheffield Utd, hence the post.

Stop being rational and talking sense. Doesn’t go down well in these parts.

Nothing against Wilder the man, I like him, think it was a coup when we appointed him.. but the facts are he's not delivering the goods and hasn't for a considerable amount of time now.

I really really hope he can turn it around as I don't want him to leave, but he could be out of the door if he doesn't start producing soon.

Our form since February/March has been brutal.

What is it, something like 6 wins in 28 games?

I'm willing to give him quite a lot of time to be honest, barring disaster of course. His record speaks for itself, he has been let down in terms of recruitment and he's a forward thinking manager who wants to play on the front foot.

It's frustrating as hell at the minute and it is concerning some of the goals we're conceding. But unless something has gone badly wrong behind the scenes he has every chance of sorting it out.

Players need to stand up and be counted too. There's some very experienced lads in that team. They shouldn't be making some of the errors they are regardless of who the manager is or what system they're playing.

Well I was holding off with the dreaded @newyddion graph until 10 games but I can't resist after your 'stat attack'. :)

Great Graph! Love it!

Could you fix it for me to see vertical coloured lines for the following..

Monk to Pulis - 2017-2018 (game 23)

Woodgate to Warnock 2019-20 (game 38)

Warnock to Wilder 2021-21 (game 17)

It would look cool and add a bit of extra spice as the season progresses. GRAPH SPICE!!

Festa
Players play for managers they believe in
Surely you know this by now?
And the stats don’t lie. Since his sniff of the Burnley jobbie the players have lost trust in him
The reason for the patchy results is that they have professional pride and will always mean we can get a result of sorts
The patchy nature of the results though matches the fact that wilder can’t motivate them any longer
I am always amazed by how much you all bury your heads in the sand and hope it ain’t true

I think he feels very let down by the club for not getting in the required amount of players he wanted - i have to agree with him. It either going to do one of two ways now.
1. Our form picks up and we start climbing the table or
2. We carry on getting poor results and he walks/get sacked.
Option 2 is looking the favourite as it stands. I agree though, he needs time to build something as we clearly haven’t the players in he wanted yet

His number 10 and number 11..
‘O’Hare & Gyokores’ - I do wonder who was identified and who the back up targets were!

We appear to be looking at more defensive midfielders.. I can see Mowett being sent back in January in favour of us bringing in two attacking players in on loan.

Will it be enough to average 1.9ppg the second half of the season?

The temporary fix till January as I see it..

We missed out on three players in these positions for one reason or another. We’re filling these places with the following:

DM 7 Luongo
AM 10 McGree
ST 11 Crooks

Crooks and McGree have their former positions backed up by Dale Stephens and Fabian Delph..

1 Steffen/Roberts

5 Dijksteel/Howson
6 Lenihan/Fry
4 Clarke/McNair

2 Jones/Smith
8 Luongo/Stephens
7 Delph/Mowett
3 Giles/Bola

10 McGree/Watmore
11 Crooks/Akpom
9 Muniz/Forss

Should we reach 33-37 points after game 23 then Mowett returns with an attacking midfielder and a striker to come in on loan. Ramirez and Bamford levels.

I love that you’ve called it the Newyddion Graph!
The Woodgate line at game 38 would be pointless wouldn’t it!

to be on track for the playoffs we need to be:

17 above the blue - after ‘meat and potatoes’
23 above the grey - after ‘the restart’

I meant fire up photoshop and dab some milestones in there.. butcher it’s simplicity and beauty!

His job is to lead the team with the resources he has.
Past records, as we know with all our recent managers, mean jack shoite.
Currently, its not good enough and I don’t think any of us believe we should be in the position we are.

He’ll get time

I would give him a bit of advice re press conferences. Attacking other managers who have just beaten us 3-2 is not a good look unless you are sat at the top of the table.
Keep your calm, have a bit of humility and let your coaching do the talking for you.

I agree recruitment was not what he wanted but diplomacy keeps him quiet. You need the right tools to get the job done efficiently.

Those last 10 games are where it's won or lost although I do think being sorted for the first 7 games puts us at an advantage.. probably if we wanted automatic promotion tbf. January transfer window closes after game 29 and maintaining consistency for the last 10 and beyond will mean solid preparation for injuries and no players coming to the end of their contracts pulling a Britt

It's not over after 10, even if we checked back at 17 and 23 and we're in good shape.. it's after game 37 we need to be careful.. the business end. No point flashing hard and then packing our bags for the final quarter. 10 points in 10 games at the start is fixable, 10 points in 10 games at the end is dead meat.

FYI Game 17 on 21 points to Game 23 on 36 points would require 2.5ppg. Even the most enthusiastic of sorts could only imagine 2ppg

As for the comparisons with other managers after 9 games, not sure how useful that is.

Pulis and Monk had parachute payments therefore a different operating model.

If Woodgate had Wilders track record he may have got a bit longer too?

With Warnock I think most were genuinely surprised he went when he did? I certainly was. Think it was only because Wilder was available that Warnock was moved along?

It helps when you hear Wilder Out, Warnock or whoever it may be. Most folks have no idea of where we should be in the league at any given point in the season.. I think it helps.
