Christmas Decs

There won't be a tree or any decorations for me. I don't see the point of them. I'll just be leaving out a glass of sherry and a carrot on @rsemas Eve for Father Bumface and the Asian jumping earthworms who draw his sleigh to make sure that I get my present.

I don't have an issue with it, I think lot of kids have had a bad few years with lockdown so anything that probably gives them excitement doesn't really do any harm.

We are potentially going to out our tree up soon but only because we've got two kittens and need to see how they deal with it.

It's what Jesus would have wanted; he was big on spending money on disposable tat as I recall from my Cafflick upbringing. "Give unto Poundland what is Poundland's"

I find it hard to be anything other than slightly bemused as to why and a bit miffed at the waste.

Nope. Christmas is an amazing time of the year but it just feels weird celebrating this early. First weekend of December is just about acceptable for Christmas Decs, 2nd weekend is better.

Haven't bothered for the last few years to be honest. Not sure we'll have chance this year but we'll (hopefully) be in the new place by then so might be nice to do it up.

Although Xmas day itself will be the usual few pints at the local around lunch time followed by an Indian takeaway (y)

Surely the excitement wears off by the time you actually get to Christmas if you put them up too early.
We always put them up first Saturday in December. Approx 3 weeks before Xmas. And we get them down on the 2nd Jan before we go back to work.

Radio 5 Live the other day had a big feature on this. It seems more than ever people are putting up their decorations in November to brighten up their lives in these dark times. Look I once would have made a joke about it but frankly they can do what they want and who are we to tell them how to run their lives?
I remember that being the case during the first lockdown.

Maybe these people have bought all their presents and don't have the secret storage that's necessary, so if they put up the tree , at least they can just wrap the prezzies and ditch it under the tree out in the open and there is no charade  . Or, they got a xmas tree present last year which obv went unused and it's been up in the loft and now, they just couldn't let it lie ( there any longer ). Ok, I'll get my coat (with tinsel on )

I thought we had a cost of living crisis.

If so will we be spending money we havn't got on things we don't need ?

I'd cancel all public lights and displays this year I don't suppose too many will take much notice but if they condone all this excess please don't whinge at me that you cannot afford food or heating

Or possibly someone who can not afford to put their own lights and tree up can still find joy in a communal display or festive spirit?

We can afford to subsidise MP's lunch, heating bills etc, then we can afford to put up a tree and some lights.

Mr Scrouge, is that Ebenezer's commonly misspelled cousin?

I don’t tend to concern myself with what others are doing, in these hard times if people get a bit of happiness from putting their decs up let them crack on. Seems a bit counterproductive to me given the energy costs but to each their own.

Mine will be going up 1st weekend in December as it’s that much of a **** on to put them up I need to make it worth the effort. They’ll be down before new years mind.
