Coburn.

A major part of our success last season was Akpoms ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play. We didn’t have that at the start of the season.

Josh is now doing that really well. It also gives the option to go direct at times. Have you never seen Dieng pinging it straight to Corburn before? This was an option we simply didn’t have at the beginning of the season.
👏

I wasn't overly impressed with their colossus of a centre-back Vestergaard. Did he play in the PL for them? If so no wonder they were relegated, I've never seen s**t piled so high.

Now you are talking about a number 10 playing between the lines. Coburn does not do this."

"Have you never seen Dieng pinging it straight to Corburn before?"

Not much no.

Not paying attention then

Before Coburn starting played 7 won 0
After Coburn starting played 9 won 7.

I like Lath, but it would be madness to replace Josh with him at the moment when it's very obvious what a positive influence Coburn is having on the team. It's a squad game anyway so E L L will still play most games as a sub, and as he has already, play an important role.

How many times in the first 7 games did LL start?

Genuine question

Spot on, playing completely different roles, tactics changed to suit. We played through Akpom in a deeper role with Archer running across and behind defences.

You got the occasional long ball from Steffen over the top last season, you get the same from Dieng this season.

Yeah good question. 4 I think? Huddersfield WBA Blackburn and QPR? And he did ok, but the team only won one point.
I think ELL is going to be great for us, but Coburn has undoubtedly enabled us to play in a way that is miles more effective than we were before he was our first choice.

Dieng doesn't play it over the top for Coburn he plays it up to him so he can hold the ball up and bring others into play. Because we're able to occasionally do that, it's made us much less predictable than we were at the start of the season. I've also noticed we also quite often go long to Jones, which is effective too.

Also to Crooks too when he pulls right so he can try to flick it on to Jones.

I agree, but the long ball is used sparingly to front man still.

Coburn at Norwich was very good, but he didn't get many plaudits immediately after the game. He was up front on his own, the 2 centre backs trying to boss him (Inc Gibson) but he won and held the ball well. Fought for everything. He just needs to add getting into the box at the right time and the goals will come. I'm convinced, longer term, him and LL will form a great partnership.

I think he's helped the attacking midfielders more than the defence to be honest. Gives them someone to play off and because he properly occupies the centre halves, they have a bit more space to work in.

Probably doesn't hurt having him to help defend set pieces, but the issues defensively weren't because it wasn't sticking up front. We were still dominating possession most matches.

It was more down to gaps in midfield, individual errors at the back and the opposition sticking every single half chance away like prime Thierry Henry.

He's certainly played a big part and is doing very well. But he's not the only one who's stepped it up.
