Combined Boro/Sunderland side of the last 30 years

Trying to remember If I’m missing someone obvious, we haven’t had the best right backs over the years but not sure they can claim to have anyone better than Young and we could play Geremi there.

Phillips would be on the bench for me, Prime Viduka and Jimmy Floyd all day for me.

You are right though, they will mention names like Yann Mvila and Sessegnon 😂
They probably think borini should be in there infront of viduka

‘There hasn’t been a better servant that Micky gray’

And I would say amen to that

I was trying to think of some of their better players and had a google and came across this best 11...
It is awful they really are a tragic little club aren't they😂

SLAND BEST 11
That's hilarious. Their best ever 11 would be in a relegation battle. That defence is horrific and the midfield isn't any better. They'd be massively relying on their strikers which is exactly what they did every season they were in the PL.

Probably the opposite. We've had some players that weren't necessarily great for us that had great careers. Their best players are the strikers mentioned above but they wouldn't get near peak Boksic, Ravanelli, Hasselbaink, Viduka. Sorensen was mentioned in goal but we've had Given and one of the most decorated players of all time in Victor Valdes. In midfield we've had Mendieta, Gazza and Ince. In defence Woodgate, Ziege, Reiziger have played for the biggest teams in the world.

Just counting their time at Sunderland or Middlesbrough then Phillips is possibly the only one that would be considered.

Do you not reckon the likes of Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole would have got in the 18?

Clearly not on their time at Sunderland, but both were quality players outside of that.

To be honest I'd totally forgotten they'd played for them. Figured their best strikers were already mentioned. They'd definitely be in consideration. They have similar pedigree to ours.

Must say i didnt realise how many pi$$ poor players they had over there prem years :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Bar the strikers the rest are bang average at best (and that is being kind to some of them)

Hmm
No Pickford, Henderson, Defoe , Phillips, Bent
Phillips 30 goals in one Premier season
Darren Bent 25
Not sure ( could be wrong ) if any Boro players have beaten those 2 ?
Pickford 50 England caps
Henderson 74 caps
They didn't get those caps at Sunderland. No way does the Sunderland version of Henderson get in ahead of Zenden, Boateng, Emerson etc etc. I also don't think a manager would select Phillips or Bent ahead of Viduka, JFH, Yak, Ravanelli

The only way you could sneak Sunderland players in would be if you were allowed to judge Sunderland players on their whole career and were only allowed to judge Boro players on their time at Boro.

E.g. allowed to consider Henderson's Liverpool career but not allowed to consider Ince at Inter or Man Utd.

Judged purely on their form at boro and Sunderland then the only Sunderland player who gets in the squad is Phillips.

Their argument will be that they matched our highest ever PL finish, twice.
That team they had with Quinn & Phillips did function very effectively, It was very much a long ball, football by numbers, get it long for big Quinny to knock on for little Kev though, it worked like.

Also Sunderland didn't come close to hitting our heights of cup finals (domestic & Euro) and cup win. That suggests we have had the better players over the 30yr time period.

Pickford and Henderson left when they were very young. Defoe and Bent were decent but would you pick them above Viduka, Yakubu or Haaselbaink or Rav or Boksic?

Philips had one superb season, but in all his other seasons he scored 5-12 league goals (average 8) in the top flight which isn't exceptional and certainly inferior to all the others I listed above. He was a good player, but not top class

They wouldn't, you'd have Hasselbaink, Viduka, Ravanelli and Boksic way ahead of those Sunderland players and its not even close.

Phillips, Bent and Defoe wouldn't even get in the squad.

Reizigger wasn’t too shabby although no Phil Babb

It probably would be all boro tbf, their outstanding player in that time was Kevin Phillips.

Viduka, Ravanelli, Boksic, Hasselbaink were far better.
