Connolly not taking a penalty

Unbelievable.
He looked rusty and unfit in his first appearance and has not improved.
He appeared lethargic and off the pace again on friday night.

Somebody posted you have to want to take a penalty. You are potentially scoring for your team, so I can't believe a supposed striker would avoid the opportunity to score a goal because he might miss.

I can't believe sympathy sits with a loan player, rather than Duncan Watmore who has undeservedly lost his place, came on and made a major impact, ran his balls off and had the guts to step forward and technique to bury his penalty.

Connolly does not deserve to start matches. Not at all.

What do you think about Watmore not stepping up originally then and letting Bamba take one instead?

yeah a striker 'not feeling up to taking a penalty' is crap. That's what they're paid the big money for. If scoring spot kicks 'under pressure' ain't their thing then they shouldn't be in the team.

I binned him off after his first two appearances and I don’t want to be ‘that guy’ - there is clearly something not right with the lad, he had a very promising start at Brighton, now it seems their fans have turned on him and he’s on loan with us carrying a bit of extra weight. his positioning looks good and he’s got a decent touch, but his movement looks very limited and his passing is panicked and often goes back to the opposition in to spaces where we aren’t. I want the lad to do well for us.. I hope he can pull ‘it’ back.

From the pennas it looked like his head had gone, a striker with his confidence completely shot. Very telling that his first response was to comfort Elanga.. almost like he saw himself in that position.

I’ve been thinking about his tattoo and the timing of it. Out of favour at Brighton, a pic of his first prem goal and what looks like shadows of him playing as a kid at the bottom. It’s quite heartbreaking..

I don’t want it to seem like I’m slagging Connolly too much as it’s a bit of a pile-on and he’s barely played, I hope he does brilliantly for us.

You can imagine Roy Keane’s reaction to that tattoo though.

In the end he’s a young lad, it’s just a tattoo and he can do what he wants with his body image, it’s a hell of an achievement to be scoring goals in the Premier League regardless, the lad is allowed to celebrate the achievement. (I know it’s a copy of Neymar’s which a few footballers have too.)

I just saw it and imagined Keano staring witheringly and going, you’ve scored one goal in the Premier League then got dropped and you’re getting a full arm tattoo of yourself?

Reminds me of what they say about all the true champions, that they enjoy winning things for about 12 hours then the next day are laser focused on winning it again the next season.

It’s just a tattoo though! Personally my favourite football tattoo is Wayne Rooney’s proper shoddy prison tatt of the England flag on his shoulder, full Wetherspoons vibes 😁
