Throughout last season we were completely hopeless at corners and posed no significant threat. The delivery of the corner was poor (either gently looped into the keeper's hands or easily defended at the near post) on the odd occasion when a decent ball was delivered we managed to get so tangled up up that we rarely managed any sort of shot on target. Our CBs would appear to have heads shaped like 50p pieces and shovels on the end of the their legs. Archer and Chuba are sharp enough should the ball fall at their feet but not particularly "strong" enough to create in crowded situations and our midfielders prone to trying to hit it too hard...

So, it makes sense to look at innovative routines it will at least make defenders have to think

I’m sure I’ve read the stats are pretty compelling in that, in general, corners achieve little to nothing for the attacking side.
Fans love them tho

my daughter has only really been following football/Boro for about a year seriously and quite early on she asked why fans get so excited about corners as they are useless

Not seen any stats, but it felt like opposition teams seemed to be quite successful at times from set piece delivery into our box last season.
We lacked the ability to defend them properly, I’d guess at around 4. It’s an area to improve

Good question, need to review that, but I’d suspect more than 2

It was 2 across the whole season, from 6 goals from corners.
Under Carrick, it was 1 and it's the one against Coventry.

Middlesbrough corner goals in 2022/23:

Wilder:
- Crooks heads home direct from a corner against QPR
- Akpom heads in a short corner routine against Sheffield United.

Leo Percovich:

- Akpom scrambles the ball in to the net from a corner against Birmingham.

Carrick:

- Akpom heads in a flicked on header from Lenihan against Preston.
- McNair slots home a flick on against Blackpool.
- Archer finishes off a short corner routine against Coventry.

Two of those are short corner routines. So we scored 4 direct from standard corners and two from short corners.
