Dael fry

Ahhh and we have our new whipping boy I see. Dael Fry is the best centre half at the club. He’s a local lad so he’s easy to beat on. He hasn’t particularly had a bad season nor has Lenihan with the exception of that mistake at Huddersfield in the cup. The problem is our system and our midfield. Our defence has been exposed time after time this year and quite often last year too. At this level we will not do better than Fry & Lenihan as a pairing. Mental that some fans can’t see our issues are with the system.

Keeping Fry when he was ‘saleable’ when getting rid of Wood will prove a serious and costly mistake in so many ways. Wood was for many fans who followed our younger / second teams an outstanding prospect. Fry became very injury prone and each time he came back from a lay off he seemed weaker and more exposed. Not a popular view on here when I suggested it but for me I would always have selected the much maligned McNair to partner Lenahan ahead of Fry. Would be surprised if there is currently a great deal of value in the sale of Fry but in terms of signings our defence is definitely a priority in the coming days.

Dear me. It’s funny how much you try to defend a player in such bad form. He’s not as good as you think unfortunately

Local lad easy to beat on? We always overhype our local lads and that’s the reason it’s taken this long for anyone to really question his place in the team. He has never been particularly good.

How can we have a leaky defence when we have Woodgate coaching them. Does this show how bad woody is at coaching. Carrick has improved Hackney since he joined

Haha woodgate coaches the leaky defence and Carrick coaches the brilliant Hackney. Read it all now.

Carrick probably only coaches the players who turn out to be good. Bloody woodgate. Don't know why Carrick just doesnt coach them all.

Hackney has been awful this season constantly giving the ball away and letting people run off him in midfield.
so maybe woodgates been coaching him and not carrick
😀😀😀

On Saturday Smith got sent off and Engel set up their third goal. I don’t think Fry was particularly the villain personally.

That statement tells me what you know about football absolutely nothing

I am all for seeing defenders play football I think it's create and helps in drawing teams out, we also have to be mindful that as defenders they are suspect to pressure and a bad touch so at times they will get caught out. It's risk vs reward and ultimately decision making if your not comfortable don't play that pass lose it in the channel etc.

I do feel we lack power and presence, look at Dunk and Webster both become really good prem players because of the team around them but first things first they are aggressive defenders.

Others like jake Cooper, Ben Gibson even grant Hanley these are defenders who put there body on the line and head where it hurts, I think as players both lenihan and fry are good but are not aggressive enough and that is something that is the same across the whole team and something that needs to be addressed.

Centre halves should thrive on aerial challenges and a physical game same goes for offensive set pieces but we don't appear to have that fire or attribute.

Amusing to read that Nathan Wood is now the next Beckenbaur (based it seems on no one having seen him since he left us) whilst Dael Fry is worse than schoolboy level (based on goals conceded through poor midfield tracking, full back errors and having been born in the TS postcode area).

Carry on.

Disagree - although the system does leave us more open there is no excuse for opposition players getting the time and room in our box that they do from set pieces especially. See WBA’s first goal - Fry was a million miles away from the goalscorer and just watched him control it and pick his spot

Dael needs to recognise that good defenders don't turn their back on a shot.

MF need to recognise that half hearted tracking back is worse than not tracking back at all. All they are doing is causing confusion then hanging their defence out to dry.

im sure there will be some scrutiny of players performances behind the scenes.

Better games ahead I'm sure. UTB
