Daily Mail is Now Triggered By……

Really?
and your evidence for this is where?
It’s science, plenty of studies out there. In a child’s early years what the see is what they define as a normal behaviour

If your parents smoke, there is more chance you will smoke
If you subjected to domestic violence (one parent hitting another) is more likely you will do it yourself
if you have been sexually abused as a kid, it is more likely that you will offend yourself

I don't often wade into these sorts of arguments but after years of working (and leading) schools in some of the more disadvantages parts of Teesside, I maybe have a different perspective on this than some others?

Firstly, schools work VERY hard to raise the self esteem of students in areas like this. Coming from 2nd or 3rd generations where families are unable to get a job can give children an overwhelming feeling of "what's the point?". Schools try hard to combat this, being ambitious and aspirational for the children in their care and expecting high standards from all (and not just academically either). School uniform is an important part of this. To then see parents rocking up in pjs, slippers and dressing gown to school undermines all this positive reinforcement and negatively impacts the perceived (if not actual) standards of the school. It is important for children and the people trying to educate them that parents are partners in what the schools are trying to do.

As for schools "not having a clue what is going on with that person", believe me, they know. We often know far too much about the personal lives of families at schools and I have spent many hours trying to help and support parents as a Headteacher with matters that have nothing to do with the education of the child. For the headteacher to turn a blind eye to what was happening was for her to say standards don't matter. It's not her (or his?) fault the press ran with it.
Thanks GS, that`s helped me understand alot more than I did earlier.

It would be nice if this kind of info was included to a degree in the news report, instead of moral attacks.

@SmallTown and @GazC_MFC I`ll concede now that I have been given more info that this could/would have an effect on kids. I personally didn`t see it as a problem but I`m willing to change my view if it does indeed affect the welfare and mind of a child.
I do understand the smoking etc would impress on a child but never thought this would.
I stand corrected

Hats off for sharing that your view has now changed, it’s a rare commodity in the social media world

Just still wondering why they picked on Middlebrough school.

Ever noticed how govt refer to Teesside in a positive light but not Middlebrough?

That's probably a Clark/ Houchen thing also.

Newspapers don't give a **** though. As a Head I am naturally wary of having anything to do with them, even for positive stories.

Not long after I moved to America my old school was featured in the gazette after an incident there. Despite the fact I no longer worked there and was 3,500 miles away when this incident happened, not only was I named as Headteacher but I was quoted too!!!

Naturally I contacted the Gazette and pointed out their error, but amazingly they said they'd spoken to the parent who contacted them about the incident and he said it I was the Head so as far as they were concerned I was the Head!!! I offered to send them photos of my passport with my US immigration entry stamps in but they said this parent had no reason to lie. Incredible.

Looking back, I should have taken legal advice, especially as with this week's Pj's at school article, it was then picked up by the national tabloid press and I was also named and "quoted" in the Mirror, Sun, Express and Mail. I contacted each of those papers too and was summarily ignored by all but The Sun (amazingly).

That is shocking GS and you are of course right, that the press don`t care.

Hope the **** didn`t stick for long and it didn`t have a detrimental affect on your life and career.
