Danny Batth

Great signing for Sunderland but a loss for Stoke...

They're 8th in the league and he's been the centre of a back 3 every game (except last weekend) for the past 8 - 10 games...

Replacing him with a 39 year old Jagielka and then sending him out on loan is weird.
I like Jagielka, he's a great pro, and has had a great career, but at his age, in a back 3? where you have to be able to shift across to cover the fullback position occasionally? It would make them very vulnerable down the sides of their defence. Even central in a 3, I wouldn't really trust his legs to be quick enough to cover the space if one of the other CDs gets dragged out wide.

It's a really, really strange set of transfers from stoke, maybe Jagielka is cheaper than Batth....but surely if this is FFP based they should be a firesale with their massive spending.

I agree Jagielka is a great pro and would make great cover (similar to Bamba for us), but I wouldn't want him (or Bamba) as my first choice CB in the middle of a three or a five at the back.

Maybe something's happened behind the scenes with Batth because he was wanted by Sheff Wed last week too. It's as if Jagielka was coming in as his ready-made replacement.

He could be a good signing for them. Aren't we looking at one of their defenders (according to reports)?
Stokes? Haven't heard anything, we were rumoured to be interested in one of the defenders brothers, but I haven't heard anything about any stoke defenders.
