Darlo escape

I live in Darlo and I would say there are more Newcastle supporters here than Sunderland or Boro and probably more than would attend a Darlo home game. Get yourself to Darlo station a couple of hours before a Newcastle home game for all the evidence you need. I used to go to Feethams if Boro were away but only went to the Reynold's Folly once (Boro friendly). Shame about Feethams with a fraction of the money spent on the Folly it could have been a proper modernised stadium, bang in the centre of town.

Sorry to read about Darlo's situation.

The Darlington area always reminded me of a towns in the East Midlands with lots of engineering companies and the people tended to reflect it. A bit quieter, dourer and more introverted than Teesside Folk.

Scarborough overachieved last year and were quite fortunate to get out of the NPL a couple of seasons ago in my opinion but fair play to them, hopefully they aren't dragged into a relegation battle.

I watch South Shields quite regularly when the games don't clash with Boro. Arca is doing a great job so far this season, and the win at Spennymoor last night very impressive. They are playing a much better brand of football than under Phillips in NPL. They do have a big worry that the chairman wants to sell up. Crowds currently healthy though despite both Newcastle and Sunderland doing relatively well which is a good sign.
We should be ok as we have 2-3 games in hand and only 5 points of a playoff place its a really tight league this season. Could really do with a striker (Jacob Hazel ?) Our FA Cup adventure came to an end last night but the FA Trophy starts on Saturday.

opps meant to say - Trophy game is away to Chorley.

Darlo had a relatively new stand at Feethams. Reynolds should have got the team to the Championship before even construction started. His attitude was build it and they will come. Unfortunately they included Boro, Newcastle and Sunderland fans looking for a 2nd team to support which was never gonna happen

Greening has done a great job overall i think but yes a good striker can make all the difference. Blackett has been superb upfront for Shields and the missing piece really. It was an area they really struggled in since letting Jason Gilchrist go.

I think going professional in the NPL wasn’t the best move as it meant a lot to the best part time players left and not many full time pros want to play at that low a level. Bit of a different story this season and has allowed them to attract much better full time pros at NLN level.

I rest my case

Josh Gowling sacked they really are in the .... and look to be going down. The next appointment is going to be a massive call or back to the Northern Premier League with Whitby, Marske, Morpeth and possibly Stockton

Crazy really. When I was a kid we were in their division.

I mean, “long-term” you might think it good for Boro in terms of fanbase, but as Muttley says, the “Durham links” make it more viable that they’ll support Sunderland or even the Mags, who are supposed to be about to start dominating global football.

I once took a penner at Feethams at half-time. Missed (not saved, actually missed). It was a great penalty apart from that.

I have fond memories of Darlo. So it's sad to see.

My dad was absolutely football mad and dragged me everywhere in the early / late 80s. We used to go to the majority of Boro home matches. Holgate everytime.

Yet he was never keen on going away to watch us. I guess knowing what I know now Boro away in the 80s could have been 'lively'.

So we regularly went to watch Darlo on a Boro free weekend. I imagine I've probably seen them in the flesh 50 times + back in the day. Although clearly just a kid. I remember swapping ends behind the goal at HT. I don't know of any other ground were you could do that?

They've had some pretty decent sides and players over the years. So take no pleasure in where they are now 😕

Big soft spot for them having been to many home and away games (best mate when I was 16 odd supported them) and my dad is still involved in the club in some capacity.

Glad to hear they’ve dumped this numpty who is sounds like was completely out of his depth from the off. Surprised he got as long as he did.

Big appointment next.

They train one night a week.
One night a week.
Other than that they meet on match days.
How is any manager supposed to be able to have any kind of meaningful influence under those circumstances?
The only thing that gets you out of those Lower leagues is bags and bags of cash. That's and a shed load of luck.

It is brutal at that level and Darlo don’t have an exceptional fan base either so not much money will be coming in.

Relegation looks inevitable. Or even worse perhaps. They might not be the only one, Shields are imploding but had a much better start to the season. Rumours of chairman making the squad go back to part time to save money as he looks to sell up.

That was the trouble with Feethams. Nobody knew where the posts were.

Is it not the case that a lot of Darlo people adopted Newcastle as their team due to their hatred of Hartlepool whose fans all had a soft spot for the Mackems?

Their support at that level isn't particularly poor, they're 2nd bottom but have the 7th highest gate, and by some way compared to the clubs at the bottom of the attendance table.

If they're only training once a week it's a shocker.
