Darragh Lenihan & the ROI squad

At 28, Lenihan has played over 180 games in the Championship for both Blackburn and Boro.

He's captained both and if I'm not mistaken, was voted into the Championship team of the Year last season?

I can't believe he doesn't get into the Republic of Ireland squad, with only 3 International appearances to his name since 2018.

Here are the defenders from the most recent squad announcement to play Latvia and France this month;

Seamus Coleman (Everton)
Matt Doherty (Atletico Madrid)
Andrew Omobamidele (Norwich City)
Nathan Collins (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
John Egan (Sheffield United)
Dara O'Shea (West Bromwich Albion)
Callum O'Dowda (Cardiff City)
James McClean (Wigan Athletic)

Lenihan has been brilliant for us this season, is a leader and by all accounts Blackburn's best player last year too. Would love to see him playing International football, although I guess for us it's good to have him in and around the place during the international break.

Surely that is Andrew O'Mobamidele, to be sure.

He’s better than Egan and O’Shea for me. Mental he doesn’t start for them never mind not get in this squad

tbf just checked them on FM and Egan/Collins are rated better and he's level with Omobamidele. Maybe he doesn't want to take such an experienced player as effectively 4th choice CB (and as above presumably the existing players are now in favour). Could just be a bit unlucky.

Must be something more to it? Maybe he doesn't see eye to eye with the manager? Definitely one of our best players this season.

See also England.
But that’s not true though as England invariably pick for the top clubs whereas Ireland Scotland pick lower league players snd and stick by them regardless of form look at Aiden McGee still getting the rep side in division one as he was one of the lads.

England would never do that

They do. Kalvin Phillips is still getting selected despite not playing club football this season. That can only be because Southgate likes him.

Not saying he's not a good player but he shouldn't be being picked. He's picked because he's a favourite.

Gareth has his favourites I completely agree but I’m talking regardless of manager the same faces seem to just get picked for Ireland.

Would a league one player really start for England ????
