Day's out as a kid in the 70's

Locke Park, New Marske woods or the South Gare ( which everyone from Redcar called the break waters for some reason) were my idea of heaven back in the late ‘70s😊

I remember a day out at the airport too. Also going up to sheepwash and my mums A30 not making it.

My Dad would drive us out to look at the flares at night.
Saturdays, was a cafe in Stokesly for a coke and a club biscuit.

We once drove to Blackpool to see the lights, left on Friday after tea, with mum & dad, sister and aunty.

Got the Blackpool goodness knows when, walked along the prom to see the lights (it was the year they were doing the muppets), then jumped back in the car, found a layby on the way back and slept in the car (it was an Austin Allegro).

My sister slept on the parcel shelf at the back, me and the aunty in the back seat.

Got back Saturday and dropped aunty off at home in Garnett Street then back to Brotton.

Don't think we repeated that trip.
How old are you NZ?

Our mam & dad (proper Boro saying) use to regularly take us out on a weekend and we went on holiday every year. Most weekends would be spent exploring the Breakwater (South Gare), spending hours next to the little paddling pool in Saltburn, trips to Whitby or picnics on the moors. There were five of us and as kids, we always found something to get up to.

Holiday's would be at Denis's Holiday Camp at Filey, Primrose Valley and we even went further afield when my dad was working on a pipeline over in Heyshem (Morecombe) and later to Wales and Great Yarmouth. The latter being one of the best holidays I have ever been on - 14 year old and not a care in the world.

I even discovered girls could be alright on that holiday.

I don't think I always appreciated what my parents did for me as a child but you soon come to realise it can't of been easy to keep five kids entertained when you have a child of your own.

The Blue Lagoon - and hope not to get shot at by the farmer as you ran across his field to get to the place

in the 60s we lived off St Pauls Rd, and in the corner of the back alley there was a stable with a Nag in it, a local totter kept it - we'd get sent to see the horse !!! - "go see the horse"

take the car and park up on the grass near the old baths at seaton crew .... played footie ... tartan rug for a picnic and little gas ring for water for tea... easily pleased in those days

Grew up in Redcar/Marske in sight of the sea, so pretty much had one massive great playground as a kid, which I thoroughly appreciated. Holidays were limited as we were 4 kids and Dad was a teacher, but we managed a couple of Camper Van (Caravette if you're my age!) weeks in Newquay mid '70's.

We used to go to Upgang Beach at the northern end of Whitby for days out then we also used to go to Whitby for our annual weeks holiday. For some reason it was the only place my Dad would drive to but it didn't bother me though my mam still complains about it these days.

Hmm, me too Squarewheelbike. Your experience sounds similar to mine, though mum was a teacher and we had a small caravan. I wonder if we crossed paths….
