Hillman Avenger in the 70s. Notorious for their sills rusting. Roomy bench rear seat though….
The Avenger was my first car that I bought from the car sales at Malton. I only bought it so I didn't have to get two buses home.Hillman Avenger in the 70s. Notorious for their sills rusting. Roomy bench rear seat though….
Baked bean tins, gun gum and jubilee clips for exhaust repairs . These youngsters don’t know they’re bornMy dad use to have a Volkswagen Variant that I use to drive. Going out trying to pull girls in a car that looked like a hearse had a huge impact on my love life.
It needed a new exhaust and I remember us making and welding it using 6mm thick pipe. The car was a beast.

My dad had one of those for a bit too. It was the big estate model and it started out being white but because it was rusty and looked awful my dad got is sprayed as cheaply as he could, so it ended up a lovely shade of dog sh*t brown. I can remember us going on holidays to either Scotland or Cornwall in it every year with me and my brother travelling in the boot, surrounded by suitcases and bags.Datsun 120Y LNP180T
my first car. Tons of rust, but saw some action, that thing
Hope this helps -I can remember us going on holidays to either Scotland or Cornwall in it every year
It used to be Scotland one year and then Cornwall the next. We never went anywhere else.Hope this helps -
Scotland is up, Cornwall is down.
Cornwall for us every year when I was a nipper, at least you got to holiday in another country The drive to Cornwall used to take 24 hours back then - including a sleep in a layby for a few hours. It used to be Scotland one year and then Cornwall the next. We never went anywhere else.
It was the same caravan park in Creetown in Scotland and the same caravan park in Cornwall too. We did go to the Norfolk Broads once with my grandparents, and our one holiday abroad as a family was a fortnight in Salou, and there was a heatwave and the temperatures were ridiculous and I spent most of those two weeks delirious in the hotel room because I couldn't handle it.Cornwall for us every year when I was a nipper, at least you got to holiday in another country The drive to Cornwall used to take 24 hours back then - including a sleep in a layby for a few hours.
Ha! I had a mark I Escort that you could poke your fingers through the sills. I kept it nice looking on the outside patching & fighting chrome rust etc right but at the 17 year mark was told by the MOT mechanic to drive it over the border for scrapping before it snapped in half.Yes. I could see the road through the floor of my Escort. The drivers seat wasn't attached to the floor either, the mountings had corroded away.
mate had a s***y brown coloured Avenger and the gear stick would jump out when driving... got the knack to ram it back in at 60mphHillman Avenger in the 70s. Notorious for their sills rusting. Roomy bench rear seat though….
