Disallowed Goal Yesterday?

Was at the game, so apologies as this has probably already been covered, but myself and everyone around me was convinced the referee gave us a goal when it was bundled on the line by the Huddersfield keeper, players even went to kick off again iirc. Looked like the Huddersfield players got the ref to change his mind and give a free kick for some reason?

Only part of the ball crossed the line, all of the ball has to be across the line - check highlights on MFC.

Fine margins as they say.

The ref should not have given the goal initially ,that was one of his mistakes in the game, if he gave it.

SSN initially reported it had been given.

For some reason I thought we had goal line technology in the Championship?! So was surprised at the confusion!

At match hadn’t a clue what was happening.
Looking on tv I think the ref was pointing to his watch to say the whole of the ball had not crossed the line, but Akpom grabbed ball off keeper thinking it had crossed line so ref gave handball against Chuba.

Aah but the ref pointed to his watch and gave the goal. So this makes no sense at all. He actually ended up giving them a free kick. So it's very weird.

He definitely pointed to his watch so I presumed it had been given, although I didn’t think it was in from where I was standing. Pretty sure he gave a goal kick and not a free kick

But the ball never went out other than into the net. So none of this makes sense. I thought at the time and still do that the Hudds players told him there was a foul and he went with that.

Akpom grabbed the ball out of the keepers hands so we could get on with game hence handball.
Normally when a ref awards a goal he points to the centre circle and then blows whistle, he didn’t do that yesterday
I assume he pointed to his watch to indicate to the players it hadn’t crossed the line. Obviously you would have to be in hearing distance to know what he was saying to the players at the time he was pointing to his watch.

Carrick in the Echo said it was the fourth official or linesman who told the ref it didn't go over the line. He definitely, blew and pointed to the centre circle and then was told to change his mind. Now we have goal line technology in the Championship so there is no way the linesman should have overruled the computer - no way he could see through the ruck of players.

It really does sound like the ref cocked up. It may have changed the game. Might not not have but we will never know.

The ball didn't cross the line. The refs watch told him it hadn't crossed the line. If the ref gave it he jumped the gun , don't see how the ref or the linesman can give a goal from where they were stood but with modern technology the right decision was reached. Akpom grabbed the ball so handball was given again correctly.

Commentary called it as a foul on the keeper? But was confusing even having watched several replays, impossible to say if it did/didn't cross the line but it was VERY close.

Can we scrap VAR and just have ref's miked up so we can hear the decision that they have made please? Or at least define some clear hand signals to indicate what the decision was?

It’s there already he bows his whistle and points to the center circle. He definitely did not point to the center circle yesterday.

From where I was stood it definitely looked like he pointed to the centre. And then the Hudds players got at him. The fact Carrick was told a person rather than the the technology ruled it out is bonkers - they have the technology for this. So someone is fibbing.

Watch on EFL highlights the replay from behind goal clearly shows the referee does not point to the center circle.

I cannot bear to watch it again! But we in the ground all saw it. That was when Akpom kicked the ball to the centre circle. He had tapped his watch too.

Yes, I saw him point to his watch as the Huddersfield keeper claimed the ball around the line and then Akpom take the ball, around 30 seconds later he points for a free kick and all the Huddersfield fans cheer, they must have thought he had given the goal? Anyway all done now, but if Carrick says the 4th official ruled it out there’s something wrong, suggests he had seen a replay and judged on that?

I thought that the ball had crossed the line but crooks had pushed the ball over with his hand. I was listening to the Huddersfield commentators and they had no idea what had happened or why a free kick was given.
