djiksteel or smith

I think it depends on who we are playing and the overall situation.

I imagine Smith would be the more solid defensive option and Dijksteel would be the more attacking positive option if we needed to chase the game (a bit like the start of the 2nd half last night)
 
I think Smith feels a safer bet for something as high pressure as the play offs, but maybe Dijksteel is the longer term option in that position if we don't recruit.
 
Smith is more of a captain & leader on the pitch, likes to dive in a bit too often IMHO though good solid pro..
Dijksteel, more pace, always a big plus for a defender, links really well with Jones, better going forward & with the ball..

Both very good.. starting the game to win it: Dijksteel, defending a lead & seeing it out Smith.. [ all bases covered :-D ]
 
Assuming both were fully fit, I'd say Smith.

He's earned his place in the side and deserves to see it out.

Quite happy for Dijksteel to play though.
 
Its unfair to compare really. Dijksteel came on and did great but we dont know if thats the level of performance we will get every week. Smith has been very consistant so i cant imagine Carrick looking to change unless injury forces it.

The positive is, if a game isnt going our way we have an attacking option who looks hungry. Same with Jones/Fors
 
Two excellent options to have which is a big bonus.
This is the benefit of a good squad depth and why we are in a good position,we can rotate,cover injuries and it doesn't weaken us
 
Thought Smith was our best player in the first half last night. The only defender to get stuck in.
But Dijksteel was rapid and has a great partnership with Jones.
Smith probably edges it for me.
 
Opinions are divided, both have good attributes to there game, if we were chasing a game, then Dijksteel would be my choice, however Smiths consistency has been a big plus, since Carrick took over.
 
Surprised how well dijksteel played last night. It was only a half but he made a big difference along with jones. However consistency has always been an issue with Dijksteel. He can go from having a great game to a gaff in the same game, never mind the next one. Would probably go for Smith as he has been consistently good, but decent choice to have.
 
It's one dilemma which to me is win/win. Either/or.

Nice to have this "problem", same with Forrs/McGree/Ramsey.
 
I think it comes down to who's playing right centre back, if it's Mcnair I'd rather have Smith, he's better at keeping Paddy in good defensive positions, if it's Fry then I'd play Djiksteel cos he offers so much more going forward

I was thinking along similar lines but the other way round!

McNair's lack of pace is a bigger problem for me and Dijksteel should be better able to cover that (as we saw last night).

Fry has always been better next to a talker. I suppose Lenihen does that too though.
