Do I own my Sky dish?

They’ve asked me to send the Q box back with remote, but nothing about coming to get the dish back.

Not that I can do much with it, of course.

Drop it a few times then send it back. I've never sent one back, I even have a spare Sky router they should not have sent, nothing been mentioned about that either.

They asked for my sky q box with remote, power cord and hdmi lead when I left last year. I sent their sh1tty router back as well even though they didn’t ask for it and loads of other random old leads, mostly scart and network leads that I had in the draw just because if they wanted to be petty, then I would be too.

Getting the dish back is too costly, plus they want to transition everyone away from them, so I guess they can't be bothered.

They asked for mine but I ended up keeping it £10 a month for basic channels and the ability to record . Remotes are too old and need replacement if I upgrade again I ain’t paying extra for knackered remotes .
Theyl never asked you to get your triple ladders out and remove your dish off your house 😄

They never ask for the dish, they are usually left to rust.

The last time I had Sky, they tried to fit a second dish under the existing one. I asked the lad if he could take it down and he refused. I told him that I didn't want another dish and he said it was the only way I could have Sky fitted. When I told him to pack his tools and leave, he rang his boss who asked to speak with me. He told me he would take it down as a goodwill gesture.

I recall when I took out sky q the blurb said you never owned the box and had to send it back if you cancel.

They can use the dish again - eg if you are moving then whoever moves in can connect their box to it.

Ha. That’s some gesture.

Ah yes I guess so.

Yes I don’t care whether or not I own either really as they’re useless to me.

But I would quite like my dish taken down so my neighbours think I’ve turned posh.

If it's theirs shouldn't you be asking them to remove it from your property? Then if they don't, telling them to?

I am sure when I got mine I had to pay some money for the box, and they often try to sell me insurance to get rid of any costly repairs on it, assumed it was mine.

That said had an issue and they just came out and replaced my box

You can plug the cables from the dish straight into most smart tvs.

You won't be able to watch encoded channels like Sky but there are thousands of tv stations broadcasting on Freesat. Every BBC and ITV regional service is on there.

That's what we do. We haven't had any or virgin for about 15 years now. If your tv doesn't have a freesat decoder built in then a freesat box will sort it

It’s nearly four decades since I studied property law but the legal maxim Quicquid plantatur solo, solo cedit should still apply I think.

Basically if something is attached to the land permanently it becomes part of the land and the property of the landowner not the person who put it there.

It may well be it’s not theirs to ask for it back.

Property law was incredibly boring and very technical as I recall ( apologies to any conveyancers out there.)
