Do you honestly think the players are giving their all? Why not?

I know confidence is lower than a snakes t*ts and has a negative impact but are they’re giving it 100%?
It doesn’t look it to me.
Azaz barely broke sweat again.
McGree, I think, looks like a player with an eye on a transfer.
Thomas and ayling look like loan players who aren’t fully committed.
I’m not sure it’s the attitude or style of player but everything looks awkward and forced and it’s starting to show. Barlasser is making even more mistakes than before Christmas. The gaps today between latte and the midfield was frightening at times.
VDB looks a player who regrets coming here with every goal that goes in.
Injuries obviously haven’t helped this season and a multitude of things have gone wrong.
I don’t know the honest answer but today and the last few games (Leicester aside, where we were a little fortunate by the way)
the commitment and fight has been lacking

That’s not the same side that beat Chelsea beat Southampton beat Leicester no way yes injuries hit home but that doesn’t excuse the lack of effort and fight.

They clearly have no confidence at the moment
We need to find 2 wins to get towards safety - 3 to be virtually certain. Or a combination of wins and draws to get to the same position.
Then start again in the summer

No one can ever really know what’s going on behind the scenes, at board level, in the dressing room etc. Losing two key players in January and not replacing them seems to have hurt us, but there’s no way of knowing if that is the reason, part of the reason or whatever.

I think most of us were happy enough to see Rogers go for a decent profit but to have no one else coming in was baffling. To then let another player who can play in that position leave and not talk him into staying until at least May was a dropped bollocc.

I think the effort is there, they just don't have any confidence to go out and win a game on the front foot. We haven't done that since what, Millwall away?

That's on Carrick to sort out. Sending them out asking them to do the same thing telling them it will come good isn't working as I don't think some of them believe it.

They look scared to me. Think the Chelsea game knocked the stuffing out of us trying to play out the back.
Would agree there. I think the effects of that absolute pasting are almost entirely overlooked. I don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned on here since a day or two afterwards. It has to have had an effect, surely. We were torn to shreds on national telly. We’ve looked nervous since and have stopped scoring, exacerbating existing issues at the back.

I think they are trying to be honest

The team completely lacks physicality, it must be the fluffiest, softest , slowest and smallest front 6 i have seen in a boro XI

We got rid of Rogers 6ft 4" and crooks 6ft 5" with no replacements and its left us with snow white and the seven dwarfs as attacking options
Reminds me when we had Balogun, Sproar and Connolly stinking the place out and getting bullied by average but experienced championship defences most matches.

Depressing how much we have regressed in such a short period of time.

I think Ben Forster talks about this sort of thing on one of his podcasts. He claims players very very rarely stop trying or putting the effort in.

Which makes sense, they're professional athletes who wouldn't be playing at that level if they only tried when they felt like that. Whatever you might think of their ability, pretty much all of our players come across as good pros who would at least try for personal pride if nothing else.

A lot of them are also playing for their futures in one way or another.

So although it might look like it from a fans perspective I don't think it's effort. I think its confidence.

The Chelsea game has probably had an impact, but also I think it's just been a long hard season. Most of them have been injured, covering for injuries and it's been a season where far more things have gone against us than for us.

They look mentally ****ed and they need lifting somehow for the run in.

I blame Jordan Hugill for the mess we are in.

Just a bit of confidence has been lost especially when you lose Howson Hackney jones fry and a leader leaves like crooksy and with the likes of smith, lenihan and the goalkeeper situation whilst we haven’t really had a proper striker for 8 weeks - it’s no wonder the confidence is impacted somewhat don’t you think….
A bit of perspective

Clearly zero confidence. They seem afraid to do anything. Also anything the do wrong is resulting in a goal against.

That said the very least any fan wants to see is a bit of 'desire' or graft. Absolute basics as a professional footballer on very good money. I know it's not as simple as that.

Yet if you see players giving 100% and they lose to a better side you'd take that. We all would. Yet we are being beat by sides no better or arguably worse than us. You can't talkabout recruitment or lack of CFs etc when we are being out run and out fought.

We simply don't look remotely prepared. Especially over the last 2 games. Just look miles of the pace. That's not recruitment. We have players on the pitch who cost a few quid by champo standards. God knows what we've been working on all week.

What did we expect today? They have been god awful and a toxic fanbase. Yet it seemed easy for them. How many times recently have fans sung 'can we play you every week?'.

Fully expect QPR to beat us. Then we should really get twitchy. We probably need 2-3 wins. Yet feck knows where they will come from.

So do you think it is just confidence then? You do think they’re trying 100% and leaving it all on the pitch?
Like I say, I’m not sure but I think it’s a combination. I get the players are out but we’ve brought replacements. On paper they should be decent options with the amount of footy they’ve played and the clubs they’ve been at. O’Brien, ayling and thomas
Bad passer though has been fairly consistent from day 1. Ask any millers fan and they’ll tell you he isn’t fit to lace crookseys boots.
Azaz hasn’t broke sweat yet.
To me it looks like some of them aren’t committed to either the club or what the manager is wanting them to do

The wins will come when we get hackney, fry and coburn back. The question is will we get them back.

Jones isn't as big a miss as we have forss.

Smith is a big miss too. Ayling has been poor. I would play van Der berg there.
