Don't Often Post Stuff Like This....

Happy New Year, one and all.

For the first time as an adult I'm sat at home by myself on New Years. Just watching telly and drinking a bottle of sparkling French wine (we're not in the EU any more so I don't have to call it champagne, I think).

Brexit and Covid have ruined what might have been. Unfortunately I think the former will have the longer-term negative affect on our collective future.

Depressing end to a depressing year. Onwards and upwards.

All the best Scrote, here's hoping 2021 is surprising but in a good way!

Lots of Boro there it seems? Got some friends in Townsville who seem to be having a great life.
I've only met a handful in over fifty years of residing here in Oz.
I worked on the Sydney Harbour bridge for ten years and after I came back from a years travel, a new bloke, a painter
had started whilst I was away. An Irishman who told me that he was Curtis Flemings stepbrother.
I didn't really believe it at the time until one day he came to work and gave me a parcel.
I opened it to find an ICI Boro shirt signed by all the players at that time.
I'm only mentioning that because it was only in the last couple of years when I needed an electrician at my house
and when the guy turned up, I asked him which football team he supported, noting the northern accent.
He said you've probably never heard of them but it's Middlesbrough.
As the shirt had been in a drawer for donkeys years and no son to pass it onto, I gave it to him.
He was thrilled and told me that he would have a frame made for it and put it up on his loungeroom wall.
This thrilled me too, for at long last it would be on show and loved again.

Its amazing in the 1770s a bloke from Teesside and his North Yorks crew sailed in a little wooden ship designed for carrying coal from Newcastle to London, from Whitby to uncharted lands tens of thousands of miles away.

I guess there was no football to watch on a Saturday, so why not go on holiday.

Best wishes to you all out there on adventures and your families for 2021.

I lived in New York/ New Jersey for close to a year over 30 years ago so know how it feels to be away and occasionally miss the wonderful Teesside and the Boro!

Goalscrounger; where are you exactly ?

Lived in Washington DC from June 2016 to December 2018, but been in Chicago for the last 2 years. Two wonderful cities!

...but a happy new year to one and all!

This board plays a small but important part in my life. It keeps me up to date with footy and music from home, gives me a chance to talk US sports with other Brits and generally makes me feel less isolated and far from home. I know I don't do much in the way of "socialising" on here (I marvel at how much some of you know about each other) but I genuinely appreciate the company.

Only half six here (just opened my first beer) so still got 5 and a half hours of 2020 to endure. Hope to see you all on the other side! 🍻
Are there any American sports? What they do have they stole from us, rugby, rounders and f1

Oh and happy new year

Ah ! Fantastic. Never been to Washington but would love to go.
Did you and I have that interaction about Chicago a few days ago about the drake. ? (I write so many posts I forget who I have spoken with-sorry) 😌

Haha yeah that was me (it's just announced it's celebrating its 100th anniversary).

Although I prefer living in Chicago, DC is a wonderful place and definitely worth a visit. Totally different vibe to anywhere else in the US and surrounded by some beautiful countryside too (the one thing Chicago lacks).
