Dyksteel

With a run of games under his belt dijksteel is a very good full back, it’s been unfair on the lad.
Look at ayling, getting pelters for 4-5 games and then found his stride.
Don’t get me wrong, ayling offers leadership qualities that dijksteel doesn’t have and so does Smith in the same position.
I just think the noise about dijksteel is grossly unfair to the lad.
Nobody gave Ayling pelters for his first 4-5 games.

Those were Ayling's first ever games for us at 32 years old.

Dijksteel has been here 4 years, that was his 130th game for us.
The point is dijksteel is a very decent player imho and having almost no game time this season it’s no surprise he struggled against premiership quality forwards

He's not a very decent player, he has all the physical attributes but the football intelligence of a flea.

The 1st goal is his fault. Summerville gets passed him and he has plenty of time to bring him down outside the box but instead waits until he's inside the box to make the challenge and concede the penalty.

The 2nd goal is on Clarke / Dieng.

The 3rd is his fault, Gnoto pulls away from him and he has no idea where he is.

The 4th he's badly out of position, gets back and then allows Summerville to come in and shoot on his strong foot.

None of this has anything to do with rustiness, when Ayling played down at The Den he looked rusty in terms of match fitness but he wasn't making basic errors.

The problem with Dijksteel is he's rash and makes stupid decisions on the pitch. In the reverse fixture he brought Summerville down when he didn't need to for a yellow and then lunged into a tackle he didn't need to make for the second yellow.

Thankfully that's likely to be the last time we see him in a Boro shirt, he'll likely be in League One next season.

That one is unfair.
If he hadn't allowed Gnoto to pull away from him he wouldn't have been doing his job properly at that point.
He held the defensive line perfectly to isolate Gnoto in an offside position.

Was always more of an athlete than a footballer. When his confidence is up, this was less of a problem. But to play football how Carrick wants, it's obvious Dijksteel can't play that way. Add in concentration issues, it's a recipe for disaster as proved too often this season.
