Eddie Howe

They appear to have little or no 'new manager bounce'. I know you can't 'polish a t*rd' but you'd have expected something.

I'm not even convinced the 'style' has got any better. They ran around a bit for a couple of games but that's about it.

I genuinely don't see the draw for a potential signing (other than money). A club that's won once and its January. A real possibility of going down and a manager who let's face it is a stop gap.

It's just such a shame they have money. They were all but down if they didn't. Also fecking annoying that everyone around them is god awful. They have won once and not cut adrift😔

Howe built the foundations at Burnley and did a really good job at Bournemouth. He's a good football manager and a single cup loss doesn't change that.

However, I think he's gone into a completely impossible situation at Newcastle. They are a very poor squad of players and in any other season they'd be relegated, regardless of who was in charge, The ability to throw money at the problem might save them this season but Howe was never anything more than a stop gap there. The owners and fans see themselves as a top 4 club and Howe is never that type of manager, he'll be expected to keep them up but I think the owners will already be planning his successor.

Burnley and Watford still have to play each other twice, so hopefully one of them can win both and it helps keep a gap.

Newcastle play Watford next, I think that is a crucial fixture in this season.
If Newcastle win then I sadly think they'll have a great chance of staying up.

Even if he somehow manages to avoid the drop they’ll get rid of him asap after the final game and have his replacement ready to go….if they are learning well….on the job…because at present these new owners look like rabbits in the headlights with a pot load of money and little idea what to do….

I mean, they got rid of Steve Bruce without fully lining up his successor and then had to settle for howe who is arguably not as good as Bruce which is hilarious and shows the ineptitude of the new owners
They panicked and appointed Howe

The only manager I think who could’ve rescued them from this was Benitez
I always felt that the NUFC job was a temporary position for someone to try and avoid them getting relegated and then hopefully they could bring in a top manager.

Regarding Howe being a good manager, I personally feel he is no better than the members of the English Managers Club and will join the merry-go-round of jumping from one club to another trying to get promoted and fighting relegation.

The minute board members enter a changing room it is usually the beginning of the end. I can imagine Howe will be toast as soon as the line up their next boss. Benitez will probably be available soon. Alternatively they could always turn to one of the greats like Solskjaer, Koeman, Low or Woodgate

You could say Howe did build some foundations at Burnley but what the clarets fans say about him really doesn't hold his management credentials in a great light - his Burnley could score goals but couldn't defend. Just look at some of the results Burnley had when Howe was manager - they shipped loads in. He did acquire the likes of Vokes, Mee, Ings and Trippier who went on to be highly successful under Dyche.

Or Wilder.

How will brining in 3 or 4 highly paid so called superstars affect the moral of the rest of the squad who probably know they don’t feature in the plans beyond the end of this season.

I think Jose will end up there at some point. He loves a bottomless pit of transfer funds, and no big club will touch him now

It’s well documented that the new owners haven’t got the first idea about football, that’s why so many good managers (Emery in particular) got cold feet - read between the lines but there’s loads of statements about concern about the strategy or direction of the project.

In many ways they’re like a multibillionaire version of Venky’s.

Agree, Saint Rafa will wind up there sooner or later, can’t wait to see if he can match Steve Bruce’s record, again.

I'd genuinely have Wilder ahead of him. That's before any of this.

I couldn't understand the mags loving other than the fact he's anyone but Steve Bruce.
The guys on the 'Not the Top 20 Podcast' were saying a couple of weeks ago that Wilder was a better Manager than Howe and Newcastle should have gone for him before we got him.

If Newcastle beat Watford on saturday there's a pretty good chance they'll be out of the relegation zone.

Newcastle need clean sheets more than anything....with them only recording 1 so far in the league this season.

And in the 3 seasons Howe had Bournemouth in the PL they conceded 61, 70, 65 goals respectively.

Watford only have one clean sheet too, and that was the second game of the season. Personally, I think scoring is more important.

Wolves have played 19 games and have scored 14 goals and are 8th.

Only Norwich have scored fewer.

Newcastle have scored 19 and Burnley have scored 16 - both are in the bottom 3....having played the same or less amount of games than Wolves.

Having a strong defence keeps you in most games, therefore, giving you a chance of picking up more points.

Yes but the objective of the game is to score goals, and Newcastle are in a position where they need to win games. If they don't score against Watford, they don't go past them in the league.

I thought this defend defend defend thing had died when Karanka left.
