Why emigrate in the first place?
If you're not happy where you are in the UK, ask yourself why exactly.
It's quite possible the place you're thinking of moving to has the same problems, or worse problems. Nowhere is perfect.
If anything, consider moving to a different region of the UK. I live in Oxfordshire and despite all the problems of this country I really can't think of anywhere I'd rather live (lucky me)
Stupid little thing this and not exactly a reason to emigrate
but I find it blissfully relaxing to be in a non-English speaking country where you can just tune out of the language if you’re hanging out in a cafe or on the train or whatever.
Don’t know why, maybe hell is other people like Kafka said, but it’s one of my favourite things in life to just sit and enjoy the music of life without being distracted by the ins and outs of what people are saying. Even chavs having a row in the street in Southern Italy is quite romantic when you can’t understand a word of what they’re saying!
@BernieisGod, India is an interesting one. Was always at the top of my list but reckon I’m too old and couldn’t handle the hassle and lack of creature comforts now. I don’t think it’s a place you can just visit, sounds too intense. I have massive respect for people who switch their lives off for a bit and really go there and live for nine months or so, and I reckon that’s the way to get the most out of the experience. My mates who’ve done that say it’s like nowhere else on earth, but you go through the full range of human emotions every single day, so frustrating and beautiful and just extreme in every way. Nothing is easy.
That deep connection to spirituality they have there would be an amazing thing to experience too, my girlfriend (who’s a massive hippy) went and described it as like a land before civilisation, which always stuck with me. Wish I’d gone when I was 25 and a bit more idealistic, now I’d just be wandering around trying to find a decent latte
Like others have said, we’re very lucky to be able to pick and choose to see these places, but such is life. The world is a rich and amazing place, who wouldn’t want to experience as much of it as they can!
