England or Boro?

I'm not sure anyone does have the same passion for England, but the relative importance of the matches are a huge factor

It's definitely a building of passion as we go in to tournaments for me.

Qualifiers and friendlies get a gentle "get in there" at best when we score, and I'm not overly fussed, though I'll watch every match.

England scoring in a tournament gets very near to the "F***ing get in, you litle F***ing beauty" that a Boro goal in the league would get.

Broke my watch strap celebrating when we scored the third on Sunday.

Knock-out England goals and results are very close to Boro league goals for me.

TBF I haven't celebrated a recent Boro goal as much as I did when Shaw scored in the final last year.

The last time I went that mental was probably De Roon at the Etihad, 6 years ago!

Boro always.

Nationalism is a strange little fish.

Bit of a strange statement if you're a diehard Boro fan.

It's exactly the same thing, but for the team representing your country rather than your town/city/area.

If you can get one, you can get the other.

On this occasion I'll say a Boro win. I'd like to see England win the world cup but I'll be at sea for the final this time and don't want to miss that win when it comes :)

celebrating the goals/victories of any football team is strange if you really want to assess it.
At least the English players are representing the country we're from and they're from. Boro players are just a random collection from all over who'd probably happily leave for something better. If anything following a club makes far less sense.

I'm with you, I don't think we need to be too ashamed of ourselves. I've travelled thousands and thousands of miles following Boro home and away (ha even risked divorce once or twice :)) to know that my commitment to the club is and always will be fully intact. I feel comfortable being honest about this.

Though as I type, I am left wondering why we insist on having these debates in the football community, given there is absolutely no way we'd ever have to choose.

I often see it as a defence mechanism really if we get knocked out . Fair enough if people don’t genuinely care, but to me it’s easy to say “well I didn’t care anyway “ for some people when we go out so it seems it’s easier to cope

Good point I’ve heard also about how they feel connected to the club rather than national team . If it’s because they’re paid so much , that is very much the case with boro as it is the England team too. Club football is now largely where we pay lots of foreign players big money to come play for us when they largely couldn’t give a **** about the area , and will b***r off when a better offer comes along . How do you feel more connected to that when we’ve got a group of lads who grew up in our areas ?

Normally always Boro, and if Boro lose I will be more gutted than if England do. That being said, because its France and everyone is gushing over how good they are, and also because ridiculously if we lose Southgate will probably come under pressure, I'll take the England win.

Always Boro every single time if I had to choose between a draw for the Boro or the win for England I would still take the point. I will listen to the match on the radio on the journey home though!!

Boro. Doesn’t even merit a second’s thought. Made even easier this year, given I’d have been prouder of the national team boycotting the tournament than I would be if they won it!
