England win Euros/Boro get promoted

Wasn't this done not long ago?

I've experienced multiple promotions as a Middlesbrough fan but have never seen England win a tournament - for that reason it's England.
This.

Also, promotion is a temporary state of affairs, whereas a trophy win lasts forever. There is a reason we celebrate the anniversary of the Carling Cup win but we never celebrate the anniversary of the many promotions we've won over the past 50 years.

Promotion is simply a step on the journey towards hopefully winning something. Whereas hopefully England can actually win something for the first time in my lifetime this summer (with a Boro legend at the helm ;)).

The achievement of promotion wears out very quickly too.

We're still banging on about a trophy England won nearly 60 years ago.

We'd be talking about winning the Euros for decades.

Boro fans just complain about our last promotion now.

And I wouldn't swap any of those promotions for an England tournament win.

Even if you discount actually winning promotion, there is no comparison to how I felt when Gary Hamilton scored the winner against Bradford in the playoff semis to when Kane scored the winner against Dennark in the Euro semis.

Or how long I was upset for after losing against Norwich at Wembley to when England lost the final to Italy.
