It’s fee transfer city, Warnocks had a year long good look and the squad / characters of players and it’s pretty much his last season(s) now in charge and he must be absolutely chomping at the bit to go out on a high / like the absolute legend he is / with the only thing he really knows how to do so so well…promote unorthodox teams and raise the whole towns mentality / solid “home team” supporters footballing mental health!

I honestly believe we are about to go up but why on earth would I even waste my time not believing that? I support the team thick and thin, high and low, so so much, I kick every ball when I watch us play. Always and forever. And yeah, yeah, yeah…some will say lower your expectations / get more realistic but it’s approaching the start of a BRAND NEW SEASON before anyone has even been signed, pre-season friendlies have started and we start to look straight forward with absolute undoubted belief that we are absolutely on fire and flying high at the top of the table!!!

I fail to see what there is to get excited about. The players we’re linked with hardly get the pulse racing. Harris, Hoilet, Ameobi are collectively a very average bunch who hardly set the world on fire at their last clubs recently. Very debatable if any of them will improve us.

We haven’t addressed the striker position - and once more with the exception of one player the rest who we are linked with are, at best, honest journeyman professionals.

Of course there could be a list being worked on that is better than any of us are aware of. I hope this is the case. Because presently we are short both numerically and in quality.

I long to be excited and optimistic about the forthcoming season. Presently? It is a lot more hope than expectation
 
Don’t forget NW has been in this game longer than lots of us have uttered our first words . He’ll have stacks of contacts and as it’s basically a fire sale at the moment he’ll have lots of avenues to explore . Believe
 
But if BoroLegends trio of names are correct that's almost half of the players he wants and I would not have any of them at the club. The OP might be getting excited but I am becoming more pessimistic about the new season.
I just hope BL is wrong.

And yet he used all of that experience and all of those contacts to get in Akpom and Bettenelli last year who were utter dog egg.

It's a funny old game!

I don't mind Warnock but the cult of his fabulousness is a bit of a puzzle to me. His signings in the main have been pretty poor, he had us challenging with our misfits, got his own woefully unfit and underplayed players in, upset the balance of the squad and threw the towel in by February and said we were looking at next season.

8/10 for the Woodgate League 1 rescue mission.
4/10 for his signings so far.
7/10 for improvements in Dijksteel and Bola.
5/10 for last season.
8/10 for being personable and telling fans what they want to hear in press briefings.
10/10 for eyebrow translucence.

I want to believe but constantly being linked to Sammi Ameobi, Junior Holiett and the like makes me question that belief.

I'd rather go down the Browne, Dijksteel and Bola route of League one promise than give a three year contract to those two.
 
In my opinion Cardiff and Barnsley were an average bunch of players.
Still managed to put decent runs together and finish above us. All about grinding out results consistently against the teams on your level. If we lost 10 times to the top 5 home and away but won mozt of the remaining fixtures against the lesser si fancied sides we would be up there.play offs at least. That said it would be nice to have players on the up , young and improving...with ambition to prove themselves in the premiership if we did go up. Likes of ameobi is not that kind of player
 
I've barely thought about Boro and the new season with the Euros being on. I'll probably wait till that's over (or England are knocked out) to start paying attention properly.

Think we'll be in for another season of mediocracy as I can't see us doing as much business as we need to from now until beginning of August. Other clubs already seem to be bringing in 2/3 players and we've brought in a reserve keeper.
 
Bookies have us finishing ninth and I reckon that will be about right.

To achieve promotion would, in my opinion require both an increase in quality and quantum of players at the club, something that doesn't chime with our finances.

Perhaps if we let a saleable asset go we might get near but I'd be looking to invest around 25-30m in our squad to have it competing.

Another season of mediocracy will just lead to a downward spiral. Drop in ST sales the year after. At some point we are going to have to gamble or accept the mediocracy. I thought we would do that while Warnock is here.

It is too much of a gamble to spend the bulk of our three year FFP investment bumper season money on a one shot go on a bloke in his seventies who is leaving next June surely?

Another year of austerity, a bright young thing given a season to build then the purse strings open for a push? Same as the Mowbray into Karanka transition maybe?
