FAO Those who attended the game today

Second half was pretty poor to be honest, there seemed to be a lack of urgency a lot of the time, but first half we should’ve been 2 or 3 up.

It didn’t help how stop start the game was though. I reckon the ball was either out of play or in the air more than it was in play and on the ground. They came for a draw and got it.

I do notice the possession stats today. I wasn’t at the game and I know it’s not important how often you have the ball it’s what you do with it but in nearly every game under NW we had less than 50% possession home and away. Today we had 52%. Small gains.

Didn't see so no real input. That said the stats about 'dropping off' in the second half are shocking. We would be 3rd based on 45mins.

No excuse not to be fit in November. I'm not sure what Wilder can do? 2-3 games a week make it hard to make players 'fitter'. It really needs a pre season or different players.

First half I thought Tav and Watmore were tremendous. We need to keep playing Tav in that 8 role and I’m sure we will. We need to be better in second half of games and keep the intensity up and I’m sure it’s something Wilder will sort asap.

Promising start, definetly stuff to build on. Win Tuesday then todays point doesn’t look all bad and it’s a nice solid start for the new gaffer. Big game Tuesday

Watmore excellent first half, went down very easily for the “foul” the lino flagged but the ref over ruled, then ignored Crooks being punched in the face before Sol’s oggie, which overshadowed an absolutely brilliant goal saving Peltier tackle a second before.
Tav still hit and hope, needs to do better but at least some of his shots were on target.
Millwall killed the game second half and we didn’t have the nous to break them down although Hernandez looked lively when he came on and Crooks should have won it at the end.

Overall first impressions? Would like to hear/read them if you'd be so kind...
I didn’t see much change really. The big plus was Bola back in the team imo, Tavernier had an excellent game.. them 2nd blues are still very much a part of our game. I honestly think Warnock would have gotten more out of the game today. The ref was aweful

After Tuesday I don’t think we have another midweek game before Christmas, so from a coaching and fitness point of view it should give them the time to work on stuff and ensure they get fitter, as well as getting properly rested and recovered.

Wilder alluded to getting the conditioning side of things right, and I noticed that Frankie Hunter was back training the first team with the new guy last week, so it’s clearly something they’re working to. Under Warnock I got the impression that our fitness work was running around the pitch a few times before having a bit of a kick about. We seem to putting a lot more emphasis on the sports science side of things again, which can only be a good thing.

First half, we played some good stuff at times but things just went very flat after they equalised. 2nd half there didn't seem to be any pattern of play, I couldn't work out what it was we were trying to do.

One big positive was the strikers playing as advanced forwards; on the shoulders of the defenders. Watmore was played through on goal 30 seconds into the game, and it seemed obvious to me he'd been instructed to turn, drive forward with the ball and try to link up with Sporar. Didn't quite come offf but still the kind of thing I want to see, as we didn't play to Sporars' strengths enough under Warnock.

I did feel we were more direct with our passing and tried to play between the lines. A few times, two or three passes forward led to Sporar/Watmore/Crooks receiving the ball in good areas.

First half was decent and we played some good football but we fell off a cliff.

Peltier, Bola, Crooks and Watmore all very strong.

Daniels, Tavernier and Jones all poor (Jones game was destroyed by having to defend, it was so obvious it was always in his mind)

Coburn also very poor when he came on.

Hernandez looked great when he came on.

Here`s my take - for what its worth:

There`s lots of positives to be taken out today`s match: the constant back-passing has almost vanished!

The hoof-ball [although there was still some of it in the second half] didnt mean the ball wore RAF Goggles and a flying jacket.

We played some lovely stuff with through - balls to the likes of Watmore and Sporar.

The boys looked fitter than anytime this season.

Tav looked great in his natural position.

Jonesy looked fearless with his runs at their lumberjack-like defenders.

"Jack" Daniels must learn not to slice the ball so much, but he made some good saves.

We had plenty of soft shots on target [its a start] and kept their goalie busy.

Matty Crooks proved he can adapt to any style of play and put the ball in the back of the net!

Josh needs some good Sunday dinners to put some muscle on those long legs to counter aging fat defenders who tried hard to hold him and to push him off the ball.

Our Cuban Missile looked very lively on his brief cameo. A winger - playing as a winger! IHis brief cameo was pleasing to see, but I bet we`ve got a lot more to come once Wilder starts building his team.

Maybe we could be tidier in midfield and learn to move quicker when the ball goes across the face of goal! [One big toe would have put Duncan`s cross into the net!].

All in all - a good turn out for Wilder to assess just what he has in front of him.

Just a mention for the Referee: I thought he was the same one who was in charge of Boro v Blackburn when Dael was booted in the face - but I stand corrected.

Tavernier was really good first half and Jones saved our arses a couple of times. Some of Taverniers turning of defenders was sublime. Agree with Daniels, he was diabolical.

I saw it via a stream and thought -

we got more men in and around the opposition box than we have done in a long time.

we tested their keeper more than we have been recently, although mainly from distance.

their goal should never ever ever ever ever have stood. The linesman furiously turbo flagging should have meant it never even got to the elbow on McNair stage, let alone the goal.

we struggled a bit with Millwall’s physicality.

Bola was excellent throughout, motm for me.

Hernandez was excellent when he came on.

Good first half.

Poor stop / start second half.

All in all, some promising signs but lots to do, obviously. It’s only one game…

Just a mention for the Referee: apparently he was the same ref who allowed Dael Fry to nearly lose an eye, following a high kick from that Blackburn player! [Someone correct me if Im wrong].

Sorry but not the same ref r00fie. Yesterday was Oliver Langford, whereas the Blackburn game ref was Dean Whitestone.

Was there for my first home game in the flesh since the pandemic. Really enjoyed the buzz around the place, we really should have had it won by half time. We were poor second half, but I'll give Millwall credit for that as they stopped us creating and looked a solid unit, where as in the first half we cut them open two or three times.

Thought we missed Payero. Their goal should have been disallowed, and watching back on Quest was incredibly fortunate, though we should have been more professional at the start of the move when he didn't give the free kick the lino flagged for.

Set pieces still disappointing, hopefully Wilder can work on these, especially corners.

Overall am hopeful, but we have left ourselves too much to do this season.

OK.
Wasnt entirely sure.
Better take that off.
Goodness knows what it would have been like on the touchline if a "previous" Manager had been in charge!!!

ps.
I liked how Chris Wilder wore a shirt and tie and looked really smart and professional.
Looks good for him and good for the club.
I bet he wears a tracksuit on Tuesda!!(y)

Tavernier didn't come close to Watmore in his display and turns himself silly when he needs to just play a simple pass. Some fans will never see any fault in him. He did some good things but overall not good enough.

Jones is an attacking player, if all you can say is Jones saved our bacon (as a result of his pace) then he is wasted.

None of the keepers are good enough really.
