FAO Those who attended the game today

OK.
Wasnt entirely sure.
Better take that off.
Goodness knows what it would have been like on the touchline if a "previous" Manager had been in charge!!!

ps.
I liked how Chris Wilder wore a shirt and tie and looked really smart and professional.
Looks good for him and good for the club.
I bet he wears a tracksuit on Tuesda!!(y)

Tavernier didn't come close to Watmore in his display and turns himself silly when he needs to just play a simple pass. Some fans will never see any fault in him. He did some good things but overall not good enough.

Jones is an attacking player, if all you can say is Jones saved our bacon (as a result of his pace) then he is wasted.

None of the keepers are good enough really.
Agree about the keepers, both similar. That's a position we should look to strengthen in January. I am actually surprised we got rid of Aynsley Pears when none of the keepers we have had since have been an upgrade.

Imho I would prefer Howson or Dijjsteel at right wing back. Jones and Tav should be played as attackers, but we won't be able to fit in both. I remain unconvinced by Hernandez.....looks great in brief cameos.

Will Siliki ever get up to speed?!

I do prefer Jones as a winger but think he did a good job yesterday in the first half for us. And Yeah totally disagree on Tav. Agree on the keepers.

From the very first centre it looked apparent that the back line was being asked to play a high line and compress space between them and the midfield. So while we occasionally pressed as a front line I thought more often than not we tried to get a very solid, compact shape. Going forward there was a definite pattern of plan where we looked for incisive early diagonals to Watmore and Sporar who were playing on the shoulder. This led to at least 3 fantastic early chances. Once Sporar got injured that seemed to dry up and play became more unstructured.

Watmore looked really keen to impress and I thought Bola linked up very well from LWB in the first half. Crooks was very impressive too - for a big lad he isn't hugely powerful but I though linked play very well.

Second half when Coburn was introduced saw things change. I felt he really got bullied by their 2 big centre backs and he looked like what he is, a terrific prospect and not the finished article.

Tav continues to divide opinion - his workrate and determination to be involved is first rate. He never hides. However after a very strong first half, he like others had less impact. Getting on his back is never going to help. The lad is working incredibly hard, typified by a number of lung bursting efforts to cover for others defensively in the second half.

Millwall are well organised, physically imposing as might be expected and they are no mugs. They came into the game second half as we became more disjointed. They went very direct and kept trying to turn our defence which seemed to work for them. As others have said Jones liked a bit out of place at wing back but stuck to it.

Overall I am not going to judge us too much. Based on yesterday we will be more fun to watch and Wilder wil need a bit of time to bed in his ideas and patterns of play.

We looked really good until they scored, and that should never have been allowed. Their goal knocked the wind out of our sails a bit and although they rarely threatened we didn’t really have the quality, or the players on the bench, to go on and win the game.

Daniels was solid enough, so no issues there.

Tav had his best game for a while in CM.

Jones was decent enough at RWB, but it’s not his best position and we didn’t get to see his attacking ability.

We really missed Sporar in the second half, hopefully he’s ok for Tuesday.

Hernandez looked bright when he came on, but he’s also not a wing back.

We looked knackered in the second half and it was clear after about an hour that the game would just fade out.

The referee was shïte and him ignoring the assault on McNair in the lead up to their goal was disgraceful.

Positive signs, but I think we need an overhaul if we are to play the way Wilder wants us to play.
Have to say I agree with you about Daniels
Not sure he'll be a long term number 1, but didn't think he was too bad
No chance with the goal
His kicking wasn't great mind

Spot on that.

I was also impressed how Crookes and Tav got wide to support attacks from CM creating overloads with the wing backs. I think movement in the wide attacking positions is going to be absolutely key, particularly against teams who sit back.

Jones made a run from wide right almost at 90 degrees in the first half, don't think I've ever seen that before - he wasn't expecting to be played in, just knew it would drag their centre half in (it did, and created a wealth of space for the cross).

Re: second half, I've got an inkling they may have been asked to rein in the pressing a little by Wilder? Fitness probably isn't where it needs to be yet and coupled with a game on Monday maybe he had one eye on that? There were definitely moments in the first half where we overcommitted and looked a little out of shape where Millwall won the ball back.

Don’t be coming on football message boards speaking sense.. you’ll get lynched!!

May I recommend adding some spurious links to young South American footballers and starting a furious debate as to whether serving hard boiled eggs are the root cause of our never ending injury woes!

Take care sparkins x
