Fire at Molineux

I had to watch that match in silence from the home end. After it finished and the crowd started to drift away I felt a huge hand drop onto my shoulder from behind. I turned around to see the huge hand was attached by a huge arm to a huge skinhead. He looked me sternly in the eye, then smiled and said "Yow's ohright mite. Yow int shown nothing but respect since yow stood here. Gow on, yow can cheer now." Then he shook me warmly by the hand and wished the Boro good luck in "the big league". I've had an affection for Wolves and their fans since.

I was in Madeira for that game, rang home and me Mam held the phone to the radio for the last five minutes!

Ringing mam home stories part 2. Back in 1990 we were out skiing in Europe well before the Internet days. We had a midweek home fixture against Watford that week and we had to find out the score by ringing home From a call box at a pretty price.

Mam answered. How did we go on mam?

“Ah yes I happened to be listening to the radio this evening. Middlesbrough won”

”Great”, I said , “we won”

”Watford 2” mam continued

we had lost 1-2.
