Friends

Same,I don't really get it. Only usa comedy I truly love is Curb.
Surely you must like Seinfeld then? George is basically Larry David.

I like quite a few. Brooklyn 99, parks and rec, the American office, Frasier.

The thing that always confuses me is there's a lot of dry, what I would class as British type humour in them.

Yet most Americans I've met don't seem capable of that type of humour themselves. They tend not to do much subtlety or sarcasm.

(watching a comedy with an American is a painful experience, they seem to feel the need to explain every joke. Yes, I understand why it's funny, that's why I'm laughing).

I love Seinfeld as well but they're very different shows. Seinfeld was more about nuanced comedy with relatable situations. Friends was about that sort of perfect life with friends that in reality people don't have because we've got jobs and families and hanging out with 5 mates for 15 hours a day in massive New York apartments that would cost thousands whilst having a light workload isn't feasible

But I did also enjoy friends - cultural phenomenon. The storylines captured a generation. Phrases, haircuts, cliffhangers, it was great. But I'd pick Seinfeld over the two.

Never found it remotely funny. Could sit through an episode and it would be as funny as EastEnders. Just didn't get it🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

But hey, it must have done something right, millions of fans and running for as long as it did.

Each to their own an that.

I loved it back in the day but then I was a 20 something myself when it was at its pomp so I guess it’s of my generation.

Not watched an episode in years now although my teenage daughter binge watched them all a couple of years ago and loved it herself!

It’s easy watching, I’m sure I could pick any episode to watch today and remember it like yesterday but still enjoy it. Each to their own I guess… it would be boring if we all liked the same thing! .. Boro apart of course!

I never really understood why it was such a phenomenon, and I never really found it funny, but it was completely inoffensive, fairly nice, safe relatable storyline stuff, that didn't bother me at all if it was on the tv.
In that sense, I can see the appeal, unlike some of the other similar popular big US sitcoms of recent times which I just find offensively **** and dumb and utterly ridiculous. Big bang theory, how I met your mother etc. I actually have to leave the room if my wife has any of that ***** on…. Miserable old git that I am.

Ah, I like Friends.

Some jokes have aged incredibly poorly and the show went downhill around season 6, but you can't deny there are some classic episodes in Seasons 1-5.

And they WERE on a break. And who wouldn't have slept with Paget Brewster, let's be honest 😛

Ross did not have a fling with Kathy played by Paget Brewster. That was Chandler.

I love it and so does my kids… 10 and 7

We are going to New York next year and it’s the first attraction the kids want to do

Used to have a team member who was obsessed with it. At nights out she would attach herself to me and take me through episodes word for word. Episode after episode. So although I've never watched it I think I may be something of an expert. They all have Mackem accents, right?

My kids used to watch it. To be fair, I never knew it was supposed to be a comedy, or that there were a group of them. I only had eyes for Jennifer Anniston.

It’s far from my favourite programme.

But a quick story for you… I spent many years living in Poland and for one year I managed to blag myself room in a student Halls of Residence, which was class fun as you can imagine…

There were a handful of foreign student based in there too (Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Greek) and we’d be out partying six nights a week. Then we always had the ‘Sunday Plan’ which involved takeaway, a night off the vodka and a few episodes of Friends. The show (on a par with alcohol) is a great leveller for different nationalities and cultures and was something everyone could have a chuckle at.

Pure nostalgia 👍

I loved it first time round… first time we’d streamed/downloaded and binge watched something… Working away, I’d miss it during normal transmissions… first box setbDVD we bought too…

Kids grew up on it and still watch it and it amazes me some times how we relate real life events to snippets of it….

The most common running joke is anytime we pick furniture up and some one says “pivot… PIVOT!!!….” 😂

Like anything though, taste is subjective…

I've never actually watched it but I've seen quite a lot of it when the wife's had it on. I did laugh once though at the "woopah" one.

One of my favourite clips is when Chandler plays a mix tape for Monica.
Then that voice comes over the speaker......😬
